Position Title Student Wellness Action Team: Peer Wellness Coach Department Counseling Services Job Location Crete, NE (68333) Purpose of Job
Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT) peer wellness coaches support the mission of improving wellness culture on campus and leading health and wellness initiatives on campus. SWAT is a team of passionate students committed to being leaders of student health and wellness on campus. SWAT empowers students to lead healthy lifestyles through campus events and wellness workshops. In this position, peer wellness coaches have the opportunity to promote the adoption of lifestyle choices that contribute to lifelong well-being, address diverse health and wellness needs of peers, and educate on topics that impact academic performance, relationships, and quality of life. After comprehensive training, SWAT peer wellness coaches will provide education on campus about the 9 Dimensions of Wellness- emotional, occupational, social, spiritual, physical, financial, intellectual, cultural, and environmental.
Training Required for Position:
SWAT peer wellness coaches must successfully complete mandatory training that increases their understanding of the 9 Dimensions of Wellness and how to implement programming through a diversity-centered lens.
SWAT peer wellness coaches must be available the week prior to the start of Fall Term 2024 for training.
SWAT peer wellness coaches must be committed to program fidelity.
Background in pre-health or other health-related studies is a plus.
Course Credit
SWAT seeks to build a team across gender and sexuality spectrums and includes students of color, religious diversity, and different ability levels. We actively pursue a team that can bring diverse perspectives to the table and encourage individuals who may not meet every qualification to apply.
General Description and Duties
Learn about behaviors that impact the overall well-being and academic performance of college students.
Apply theories of health behavior change to student behaviors on campus.
Share knowledge of behaviors that impact the overall well-being and academic performance of college students. This may include Wellness Wednesdays, Condoms Club, Menstrual Monthly, presentations to classes and organizations, one-on-one meetings with peers, and other opportunities.
Facilitate programs and events around the 9 Dimensions of Wellness and Alcohol Prevention using an intersectional, trauma-informed, diversity-centered lens.
Work as a team to develop educational projects; lead or co-lead at least one project.
Distribute and submit necessary reports, assessments, and evaluations in a timely manner.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Enthusiastically attend Student Health and Wellness Events you lead and other events as you are able.
Actively lead outreach, marketing, and education.
Participate in the design and implementation of new programs and sustainability measures.
Maintain privacy and professionalism.

Must be a full-time student

Passionate about health and wellness with a desire to make an impact and promote healthy habits
Confident and comfortable presenting in front of groups or committed to improving these skills
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Must be punctual, reliable, and diligent in the performance of responsibilities
Strong relationships within the Doane community
Available throughout the lunch hour, weekends, and evenings and adaptable to change
