Summary

This Student Trainee position is located in Nutrition and Environmental Services (NES) located at the Aleda E. Lutz VAMC in Saginaw, Michigan.

The primary purpose of the Student Trainee position is to provide administrative support for nutrition programs delivered to U.S. Military Veterans, recruits, Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries.

Responsibilities

The Student will receive varied assignments designed to provide on-the-job training and experience in the activities conducted within the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center as they relate to Healthcare Administration, The Joint Commission and the overall performance improvement of the organization. Duties include but are not limited to:
Assisting higher level employees and other staff members in establishing an effective management system for planning and monitoring activities conducted by the assigned program or administrative staff.
Designs charts, graphs, and other narrative information for management or program analysis reports from materials provided by higher level employees.
Assists higher level employees and other staff members in performing analytical and technical work; assist in collecting and analyzing clinical outcomes data; gathers, sorts and compiles patient education materials; provide support for patient scheduling and data collection; identify potential and actual problems and probable causes of system operations; research special issues and gather information; report findings for the full scope of a program or function or identify information for an aspect or aspects of a program or function.
The Student will perform a variety of clerical or technical support duties involving use of computerized office applications and data bases, including use of the foodservice and nutrition management software system.
Work schedule: Between 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, hours are negotiable based on student's class schedule, as agreed upon by the service supervisor)

Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary.

Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of items such as papers or books. Significant use of computer and computer keyboard generated assessments requires basic typing and data tracking ability.

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school.

The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. This opportunity is open to current degree or certificate seeking students at a qualifying educational institution OR to students that have been admitted/accepted for enrollment at a qualifying education institution. You will be required to provide documentation to support your eligibility.

To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met:
