Primary Responsibility:

Under the direction of the Director, TRIO Student Support Services, the Student Support Services Coordinator (TRIO) provides educational advising, career/life planning, assistance with student registration processes, and support services to first generation, and/or low income, and/or students with disabilities in compliance with the TRIO SSS Grant.

The Student Support Services position is a grant funded position and continued employment for this portion of the position is contingent on continued grant funding.

The Academic Advisor II reports to the appropriate Associate Dean of the Glenwood and Spring Valley campuses. Utilizing exceptional interpersonal skills, Academic Advisor II provides one-on-one student advising, as well as coordinates various tasks in support of campus level student services. The Academic Advisor II provides information and guidance to students related to degree selection and completion by maintaining in-depth knowledge of the college catalog and interpreting the College's academic policies and guidelines. The Academic Advisor II participates in academic advising, retention, and recruitment activities as well as assistance with tracking and reporting activities. The Academic Advisor II assists students with problem-solving and goal identification; analyzes situations and determines required actions. Communicates professionally and collaboratively with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and community partners; keeps detailed and accurate manual and or electronic records; works as a cooperative and contributing member of a team. Assists with promoting the vision and mission of Colorado Mountain College.

Academic Advisor II provides academic, transfer, and career advising; registration and financial aid assistance; and general guidance for students. In addition to providing excellent service to individuals, the Academic Advisor II works as a member of the campus team, responding to the evolving demographic, technological and community needs, and providing leadership and support in the development of new and enhanced student success programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in counseling, education, or related field with a minimum of four years of experience working with populations similar to SSS participants or working with a diverse student and adult population in advising and counseling or Associate's degree from an accredited institution and six years of experience with a diverse student and adult population or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

High School and Post-Secondary experience essential. Completed counseling internship or practicum preferred. Experience in higher education counseling preferred. Master's Degree preferred.

Ideal experience will include demonstrated familiarity with college academic requirements; demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged students; or equivalent education and experience. Demonstrated experience in programs that improve access and success for underrepresented populations, including adult Learners, in higher education essential.

Special Skills or abilities TRIO/SSS Coordinator: Ability to administer and evaluate assessment testing; provide academic and career/life counseling and mentoring; prepare and maintain statistical data; strong written, verbal, analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to positively interact and engage students in an academic setting that is welcoming and responsive to students' academic and career goals. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize duties and responsibilities.

Special skills or abilities Academic Advisor II: Knowledge of higher education degree requirements, current practices in higher education, and utilize relevant technology. Ability to provide thoughtful academic, transfer, and career advising; interpret and analyze placement data and aptitude assessments. Exhibit exceptional verbal, written, analytical, and interpersonal skills. Effectively speak in public and present educational workshops. Maintain discretion and professionalism. Organize and prioritize work while exercising flexibility, teamwork, and humor.

Hiring range = $62,159.81 - $69,066.45 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Excellent benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate's skill and experience. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties TRIO/SSS Coordinator (75%):

[80%] Direct Support of Student Participants, including:

  • Interprets assessment tests for applicants.

  • Identifies, accepts, evaluates and/or makes student referrals for program participants.

  • Assists program participants in educational and career/life planning.

  • Advising and creating academic plans for program participants.

  • Performs risk assessments and personal guidance for program participants.

  • Evaluates program participants progress.

  • Plans and implements field trips and cultural events for program participants.

  • Plans and implements workshops for program participants.

  • Coordinates and/or assists with tutoring programs.

  • Identifies and trains tutors.

  • Collaborates with SSS coordinators located at other CMC campuses in planning and implementing college transfer visits for SSS participants.

[10%] Data Collection and Reporting, including:

  • Monitors and enters participant data and maintain participant records.

  • Prepares and maintains program documentation.

  • Assists in developing program reports.

  • Complies with regulatory requirements.

[10%] Program outreach, including:

  • Assists with developing and disseminating program information.

  • Promotes services and programs at campus meetings and events.

  • Serves as program representative and coordinates with internal and external parties.

  • Works collaboratively with campus teams to support student success.

Essential Duties Academic Advisor II (25%):

Student Advising:

  • Advises students in a one-on-one setting, quality providing high-quality guidance, mentoring, and tools for success in college.

  • Interprets placement assessments, co-creates with students, comprehensive academic plans based upon understanding of program requirements, students' aptitudes and propensities; assists students in the selection and registration of courses, and explores transfer institution and career options.

  • Discusses options and next steps for students on academic suspension and probation.

  • Monitors student progress and maintains appropriate records in order to best assist individual students, as well to provide analytics to guide retention and completion initiatives.

Campus Collaboration and Coordination:

  • Maintains close connections with faculty and academic affairs staff to generate and develop student success and retention initiatives.

  • Collaborates with registration, financial aid, and marketing staff.

  • Participates and coordinates campus events such as orientation, success seminars, and campus visits; assists with graduation.

  • Serves on campus committees, may supervise work study students.

Performs other duties as assigned. Outreach and Communication:

  • Generates creative means to develop and present student seminars and workshops.

  • Assists with outreach to local high schools and TRIO programs.

  • Adapts to evolving communication modalities, including, but not limited to college-wide applications and relevant social media.

  • Builds and maintains relationships with relevant community entities; refers students to campus and community mental health services.

  • Connects and communicates with transfer institutions.

Other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

The position receives general direction from the Director TRIO and the Associate Dean of Student Affairs of the Campus.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may serve as a lead to other team members.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report is required. The Student Support Services position will require some travel and evening/weekend hours. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs. Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
