The Student Success Manager is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students in an effort to increase student retention, success and completion. Provides coaching on time management, prioritization, and accountability to students to improve school-life balance, foster new approaches to roadblocks, build motivation and connect students to available resources. Monitors attendance and works with Student Advisor and Registrar to assist in the notification and advising of students not making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP). Is a strong advocate of student retention.

Student Success Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct student advising, providing mentorship, guidance and direction to high-risk students.

  • Monitor student progress through key reports (high-risk dashboard, Canvas, LDA, Wonderlic Distance Learning Profile, Student Interview Questionnaire and others) and identify at-risk students. Work individually with identified high-risk students to recommend resources and solutions to academic difficulties and barriers for success, to include tutoring, training on student success techniques and others.

  • Comply with all SAE policies and procedures.

  • Coordinate and lead new student orientation and re-enter orientation with the focus on preparing new students for success at SAE.

  • Participate in open house, and other campus activities as assigned.

  • Advise students on tools for academic success.

  • Coordinate and manage campus student engagement activities, including student clubs.

  • Collaborate with campus leadership to facilitate and improve services to students.

  • Notify the Associate Dean of Academics when a student requests accommodation for a disability, and work with the student to provide the appropriate documentation to the Dean of Academics.

  • Supervise the recruitment of returning students who have a last date of attendance less than 365 days including coordinating with key staff.

  • Coordinate Student Advisory Committee meetings, as described in policy.

  • Other duties as required.

Student Success Manager Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or higher and 5 years of experience in a higher education environment in a faculty and/or student advisement role.

  • Represent the school honestly and ethically and in a professional manner.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally (in one-on-one and group settings) and in writing.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and community members.

  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies, individually and as a group.

  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule as required (includes evenings and weekends).

  • Communicates effectively with people at all levels in the organization using clear and concise information and avoiding vagueness, ambiguity, and mixed messages. Provides specific, timely feedback to manager and others to increase the organizations efficiency. Receives cooperation and support from people at varying levels and in different groups.

  • Continuously looks for ways to simplify and improve work processes to achieve better results. Seeks input from internal and external customers to create efficiencies and improve performance. Maintains focus on long-term quality results.

Student Success Manager Physical Requirements

This is a full time, campus based position

Sitting for long periods. Dexterity and coordination to handle files and single pieces of paper, occasional lifting of items weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds such as files, stacks of paper, reference and other materials. Moving from place to place within the organization, minimal reaching for items above and below desk level. Strength, dexterity, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
