Status: Full time, year-round (10-month equivalent), exempt, faculty appointment

Reports to: Director of Library Services Description

Salary: up to $62,500.00

Paul Smiths College is a private non-profit, teaching-focused, career-oriented undergraduate institution, that is committed to experiential learning, blends together theory, practice, small classes, and individual attention to foster student learning. Our lakeside campus is situated within the Adirondack State Park in upstate New York near the communities of Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, and Lake Placid.

Paul Smiths College is seeking applicants for the position of Student Success Librarian. This position works collaboratively across campus to provide information literacy instruction, student outreach, engagement, both inside and outside of the library. The Student Success Librarian will be the campuss expert on Information Literacy and will work on its delivery and assessment through in-class library instruction, Faculty collaborations, and other initiatives. In collaboration with the Library Director and staff, this position helps to manage our Student Worker Program, provides references and circulation services and supports other library initiatives. We are seeking an energetic, creative, and learning-centered candidate to join our small team and work to advance information literacy, outreach, and assessment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plans Information Literacy instruction, coordinating both required and requested sessions.

  • Teaches the librarys instruction sessions and creates reusable instructional materials (lesson plans, tutorials, modules, etc.).

  • Designs ways of integrating library resources and services into the daily lives of students and collaborates with Faculty to integrate library resources into courses and the curriculum.

  • Creates student learning outcomes and assessment materials related to Information Literacy

  • Enables collaboration between the library and other departments, committees, and student groups on campus to create initiatives that foster student success.

  • Collaborates to manage thriving student worker program to encourage career readiness in student employees and assist library technician in student worker management.

  • Creates educationally and institutionally relevant programs and events in coordination with Student Workers and Library Staff.

  • Maintains knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and best practices in academic library outreach, instruction, information access, and assessment. Actively seeks relevant initiatives for local implementation.

  • Provides proactive, user-centered service to library users.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • MLIS degree from an American Library Association accredited library program.

  • Information Literacy Instruction or related teaching experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and web editing software. Experience with LMS such as Canvas.

  • Experience using software such as SirsiDynix Symphony ILS, LibGuides, Canvas LMS.

  • Ability to integrate resources into reference and library instruction services and a strong familiarity with academic resources.

  • Interest in working with patrons in one-on-one and group situations.

  • Experience in marketing and image editing software such as Photoshop or Canva is a plus.

  • Strong personal service philosophy and solid interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Willingness to share the varied workload of a small college library in a team atmosphere.

  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
