Purdue Promise is a comprehensive four-year programcomprised of financial assistance and targeted support rooted in four guidingprinciples: academic, social, leadership, and life skills development. PurduePromise currently supports three scholarship programs for low-income students,many of whom are also first-generation and/or underrepresented. The program hasreceived campus-wide recognition and national attention for success retainingat-risk students, and we look forward to adding new professionals to our staffthat can advance our efforts.

  • Coach a caseload of approximately 150-200 Purdue Promise scholars, providing high-touch, individualized support and care.

  • Track students' academic progress and facilitate their use of various Purdue Promise and campus resources.

  • Work with College-specific and other campus partners (including but not limited to other Student Success staff, advisors, Financial Aid staff, and counselors) to support students' success.

  • Teach Purdue Promise first-year experience seminars.

  • Assist in planning and facilitating workshops, Blackboard modules, and other academic activities for Purdue Promise Scholars.

  • Maintain and update student tracking database and files.

  • Support other Student Success and Enrollment Management programs.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Competency to analyze, interpret, apply, and follow policies and procedures.

  • Capacity to represent the University and program with tact and diplomacy at all times.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build working relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Motivated individual with ability to efficiently multi task, work under pressure, handle frequent interruptions and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to identify and determine problems, analyze information and implement solutions.

  • Capable of taking initiative, assuming responsibility and handling confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work independently and contribute to a team environment.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Experience with advising and/or personal and academic coaching, teaching, advocacy, financial aid, personal and career development, case management/outreach, and mentoring.

  • Experience working with low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented students.

  • Sensitivity to issues regarding equity and diversity.

  • Knowledge of higher education student recruitment, orientation, access, transition, retention, and success.

Work with select neuro-diverse students to assess, create, modify andimplement unique solutions to assure effective accommodations taking intoaccount the environmental barriers present to those individual students. Meet with students to better understand theirindividual situations and/or their use of service providers. Establish and maintain record-keepingrequired and approve payment. Assureservice providers are qualified and properly oriented. Work with faculty to assessand provide closed captioning for teaching materials. Arrange for Accessible Technology (AT)purchases and loan of AT to students for class room use. Make recommendations on continuous qualityimprovement and assist in problem solving specific related issues. Contribute to development and administrationof program evaluation criteria. Provideaccommodated testing coverage as needed which could include nights andweekends. Required: * Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Sciences, Special Education, Deaf Studies, Disability Studies, Social Work, Psychology/Sociology, Human Services, or related field. * Two or more years of experience working with the disabled population. * Demonstrated understanding of accommodations in higher education as guided by disability law interpretation. * Proficiency in Microsoft office products. * Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. * Ability to be flexible in work assignments, work independently and multi-task while staying organized. * Ability to be comfortable working with students while maintaining integrity of accommodated testing environment. * Ability to interpret and apply Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Preferred: * Experience with low incidence disability (deaf and HOH, blind, etc.) * Higher Education experience.
