Under the direction of the Director of Student Success and Federal Compliance, Student Success Advisors (SSAs) provide comprehensive career and academic advising to students in specific academic programs and strategic educational support to their respective academic departments. Additionally, this SSA will plan, implement, and evaluate student activities directly linked to campus involvement and social engagement, including intramurals, student clubs, and large events (e.g., campus picnic, talent show). The student engagement coordinator works collaboratively with student government and activity advisors to create and sustain a culture that promotes student learning, engagement, and belonging. Through student life, Southeast Technical College (STC) creates meaningful ways to get involved, apply one's learning, make new friends, and form lasting memories. In this student-centered context, this individual offers strategic leadership to foster cocurricular learning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: ADVISING CASELOAD

  • Educate students on ways to communicate effectively to employers on resumes and during interviews.

  • Teach students goal setting, decision-making, career management, and learning strategies.

  • Collaborate with faculty advisors to ensure students maintain their degree progress.

  • Respond to concerns from faculty or staff and generate referrals to campus partners to advance student well-being.

  • Provide proactive advising to students experiencing academic difficulty and registration barriers.

  • Facilitate career engagement and exploration by connecting students to experiential learning.

  • Pre-register first-year students and facilitate matriculation during Academic Advising and Registration (AAR) Days.

  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with faculty in the academic programs the SSA represents.

  • Draft example resumes, study strategies, and job search strategies specific to the academic programs the SSA supports.

  • Network with employers during STC recruiting events tailored to the SSA's respective academic programs.

  • Deliver SSS 100: Student Success Seminar curriculum that is used enterprise-wide to maximize student persistence, completion, and well-being.

  • Design and deliver student success programming to increase persistence, completion, and success outcomes.

  • Confer with outside agencies, STC instructors, departments, and administrators to resolve students' academic, career, emotional, financial, medical, or social concerns.

  • Assist and advise students with major educational processes, including class registration, degree audits and requirements, changing majors, suspension and reinstatement, and graduation requirements and application.

  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.

  • Actively contact students who recently graduated to ensure they have secured satisfactory employment.

  • Advocate for the removal of barriers and identify opportunities to redesign existing practices to advance student success.

  • Exhibit professionalism and ethical integrity aligned with the values of the institution and professional associations respective to one's work as a success advisor (NACADA, NCDA, NACE, etc.).

  • Provides backup for Student Success Advisor colleagues and front desk staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: STUDENT ENGAGEMENT

  • Serve as the first point of contact for information concerning student life areas on campus including, but not limited to, campus activities, intramural sports, academic organizations, and student clubs.

  • Co-advise Student Government Association to ensure students' voices are heard.

  • Mentor student leaders through cocurricular activities and student government.

  • Curate content and distribute weekly student life newsletter to the campus community.

  • Oversee student activities budget with the VP of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and Business Office regarding club accounts, purchase orders, referee contracts, and credit card management systems.

  • Set up informational tables and booths at campus events to promote student engagement.

  • Develop student leaders through training, mentoring, and individual instruction.

  • Implement cocurricular assessment plan, onboard faculty club/student organization advisors, and oversee major events (e.g., Talent Show, Welcome Back Picnic).

  • Develop and maintain a master calendar of student activities to achieve timely marketing and continuous student engagement.

  • Arrange peer panels for SSS 100 sections in collaboration with the Academic Resource Center, Access & Workforce Opportunities Center, and faculty advisors of academic organizations.

  • Cultivate community partners who offer discounts on resources or services that are included in Jumpstart bags and (in the future) the Navigate app.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Education: A master's degree in advising, counseling, higher education, or a related field is required given teaching responsibilities.

  • Experience: Previous higher education experience required; 3 to 5 years preferred.

  • Evidence of academic and career advising competencies as described by NCDA: The National Career Development Association and NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising.

  • Ability to articulate knowledge of career development, advising approaches, and student retention theories and use of student information systems.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, problem solve, manage budgets, and build rapport quickly with diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a history of making independent decisions and leading educational programming.

  • Embody STC core values and comply with all the policies stated in the STC Employee Handbook.

  • Possess interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and foster collaboration.

  • Creative self-starter able to work in a fast-paced educational department of like-minded colleagues who are driven to innovate and collaborate across the institution.

  • Support all Enrollment Management colleagues regardless of department and adapt to changing roles given the evolving needs of the institution and students.

General office environment with standard office equipment available. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Moderate noise levels typical of an office environment due to staff and student conversations and office equipment. Job is sedentary with physical activities normally required in an office environment. Possible temperature changes as individuals enter and exit the building.
