Student Success Advisor

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for a Student Success Advisor position. This position is located on Atlanta Tech's main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta.

The Student Success Advisor position is highly collaborative and responsible for facilitating intensive, individualized evidence-based interventions and support to foster student accountability and overall success. The Student Success Advisor will assess individual student needs and work with internal cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to ensure students enrolled in high-demand career programs at Atlanta Technical College achieve their maximum educational and vocational potential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Advises students on academic requirements, selection of courses and graduation requirements

• Reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites.

• Performs and interprets degree audits.

• Attends program and division information sessions and responds to questions

• Participates in outreach and student recruitment activities open house events and other recruitment activities as request.

• Collaborates, communicates, and coordinates with internal and external services and programs to foster a holistic approach to student support;

• Refers students to appropriate resources for additional support as needed.

• Meets weekly on an individual or group basis with students to develop targeted educational and career pathways, monitor performance and academic progress, maximize resources and services, and serve as a trusted resource for students to ensure understanding of the academic process.

• Responds appropriately to early alert situations; monitors and documents student academic achievement, persistence, and compliance with plans for success and career placements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related work experience

• Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in counseling, higher education, social work or related field and 2 years' experience as an academic coach, academic/career advisor or other role in student support services in higher education, nonprofit or community services.

• Experience with student retention practices/programs and knowledge of financial aid practices, student development/retention strategies, curriculum standards, instructional strategies, and assessments.

• Advanced computer skills and experience with educational technologies, learning software, and online assessment tools/student database systems such as BANNER or other student database systems. Knowledge of financial aid practices in a higher education setting.

Must possess an understanding of and sensitivity to the multicultural differences/needs of students, and have experience providing success coaching, advising and/or counseling to diverse populations of students, including low-income, academically under-prepared college students in a post-secondary education setting. Strong time management skills, with focus on the ability to handle multiple project needs simultaneously. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; a willingness to work collaboratively across-cross-functional teams; the ability to convey critical information to students in a professional, fundamental and supportive manner; the ability to perform other duties as assigned are essential. High attention to detail and accuracy. Enthusiasm for the mission of Atlanta Technical College. Formal Student Advisor training preferred.
