SALARY RANGE: $45,000 - $55,000

PRIMARY PURPOSE/ POSITION SUMMARY:

The Student Success Advisor at Dominican University

  • Chicago Campus supports students in achieving their educational, interpersonal, and academic goals by developing holistic support and academic plans using the university's case management and social service platforms. Emphasizing student mental health, the Student Success Advisor identifies and addresses academic and personal challenges, provides timely intervention, and connects students in crisis to internal and external mental health resources. As part of the Student Care Team, collaborates with external care teams to support students' health outcomes, manages referral databases and external relations, conducts assessments and crisis appointments, provides outreach programming, and consults with the university community and families. Additionally, the Student Success Advisor assists students needing access and disability services to ensure they receive necessary support and accommodations.

JOB COMPONENTS/PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Holistic Advising/Case Management

  • Manages a dedicated caseload of students ensuring coordination of holistic advising, care, and resolution of barriers impeding student success and well-being.

  • Proactively identifies academic and personal challenges that students may face, ensuring timely intervention and support to address these issues before they become critical.

  • Conducting regular check-ins with students to monitor their progress, identify any emerging issues early, and provide ongoing support and guidance throughout their academic journey.

  • Develops and implements individualized support and academic plans tailored to each student's unique needs, ensuring that all aspects of their wellbeing, including academic, personal, and social factors, are addressed comprehensively.

  • Collaborates closely with various campus departments, external partners, and community resources to ensure students have access to a wide range of support services and opportunities for success.

Resource Navigation

  • Manages the Unite Us platform supporting student resolution of social and structural determinant of health equity gaps

  • Serves as a one stop shop for student internal and external referrals

  • Provides consultation for students on topics including but not limited to Medicaid applications, SNAP, housing and food insecurity resources as well as other resources to address well-being.

  • Partner with wellness center on external mental health and case management partnerships

  • Collaborate with Josselyn Center interns to provide appropriate mental health services to students.

  • Providing psycho-educational outreach programming related to mental health awareness and support.

  • Consult with students and families on mental health topics.

Accommodations and Disability Access

  • Work with Accommodations and Disability Access Office to assess and determine eligibility for accommodations and disability services for students.

  • Implement, and monitor individualized accommodation plans.

  • Ensure compliance with federal and state disability laws, including ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

  • Serve as a liaison for students to facilitate the implementation of accommodations.

  • Provide training and support to students on disability awareness and accommodation implementation.

  • Coordinate and administer assistive technology and other resources for students with disabilities.

  • Maintain accurate records of accommodations and services provided.

  • Collaborate with other campus departments to ensure accessibility in all programs, services, and facilities.

  • Advocate for the needs and rights of students with disabilities within the campus community.

  • Stay current with best practices and legal requirements in disability services in higher education.

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to disability services.

  • Perform other duties as delegated or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, student development or related field

  • At least 3 years of experience working in an educational setting providing students with academic support (i.e. coaching, counseling, or tutoring), case management support, or holistic student interventions

  • Experience working with a diverse student body and designing supports to meet student needs

  • Experience with college student development and academic support (i.e. coaching, counseling, or tutoring), holistic support, or student interventions

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, in writing and in speech, to various audiences

  • Capacity to present to and facilitate in small and large groups

  • Ability to take initiative and follow through with minimal supervision

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters related to the position

  • Proficiency in MS Office programs and student database systems

  • Must be committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive working and learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with student support case-management technologies like Pharos360 preferred

  • Understanding of college student development theory

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; team-building and cross-cultural interpersonal skills

  • Experience with case management, access and disability services, and basic needs resources assessment and navigation (i.e. local and state housing support resources, SNAP and other federal benefits, health care for uninsured)

  • Previous experience with Hispanic Serving Institutions or minority serving institutions
