Duties & Responsibilities

(NOTE: denotes Essential Functions)

  • Under general supervision of the LCC-Waianae Moku (WM) Coordinator, provides academic transition and implements educational outreach programs for prospective students of the Leeward Coast.

  • Coordinates with cohort program Coordinators and the LCC-WM Coordinator Summer Bridge Courses for incoming students.

  • Builds networks with schools and organizations that provide needed support for academic articulation to UHM, UHWO, and other 4-year universities.

  • Collaborates with college preparatory programs operating within, and externally to, Wai`anae and Nanakuli schools.

  • Coordinates and implements short-term internship programs for high school students that provide college success.

  • Coordinates and assists in implementing Job Shadowing activities with the Kulu a Pu'u (KAP) cohort program.

  • Implements research- and feedback-based changes to promote increased instructional and programmatic effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Mentors and coordinates work of MAO Farms Education Resource Specialists and evaluates MAO's intermediate, high school and college programs' effectiveness.

  • Works as a team member with LCC-WM Coordinator, faculty, staff, and partner organizations to ensure student and program needs are met.

  • Works in partnership with LCC-WM Counselors and college recruitment staff to streamline recruitment and transfer efforts between campuses.

  • Attends Student Services meetings as required.

  • Coordinates student activities at LCC-WM and liaises with Student Life Coordinator.

  • Works with students, faculty, and staff to envision, plan, organize and implement Student Activities events.

  • Assists in overseeing budgets for multiple accounts (ex. Student Life, UH Foundation WM, WM Vendor) following state, federal and UH processes and guidelines.

  • Procures supplies and services as required.

  • Coordinates hiring, training and supervision of student employees (ex. content area tutors and peer mentors).

  • Work assignments will include working outside normally scheduled work hours - day, night, weekend, and/or holiday hours as directed to include various off-campus locations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Secondary Education, Liberal Arts or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student outreach; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.

  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of student outreach as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standards and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.

  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with procurement.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide-ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.

  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.

  • Successful experience working with economically disadvantaged youth in a community or educational environment.

  • Knowledge of community college and university programs.

  • Knowledge of college and career pathways (secondary to postsecondary) for career, technical, and higher education.

  • Able to travel independently to various geographic locations in a timely manner.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Two years of successful working experience in a community college setting.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Demonstrated ability with spreadsheets.

  • Demonstrated ability with presentation software.
