Reports To: Principal/Special Education Director
Responsibilities:
To coordinate and facilitate mandated special education laws and procedures while fostering collaboration and communication between parents, and students to improve understanding of inclusive education and student needs within the school community.

Essential Functions:

1.Working with Special Education Director and Building Principal to supervise and evaluate special education staff and programs.
2.Assists Principal to coordinate and maintain support services program development and oversight; including sub-separate programs.
3.Facilitate and coordinate the referral and evaluation process, IEP development and student placement to ensure that all IEP's are fully implemented and reflective of the best interest of the student and school system.
4.Act as liaison to Special Education Director regarding student planning, evaluation, placement, and IEP development for students in both out-of-district placements and in-district placements.
5.Act as liaison between the Special Education Director, building administrators and special education staff.
6.Working jointly with the Special Education Director and Building Principal to schedule and develop in-service workshops, training, and materials to inform members of the community and school personnel of current practices in education.
7.Serve on teams to determine appropriate pre-referral interventions.
8.Facilitate collaboration between teams to find the best combination of educational and therapeutic services for students in need of special education.
9.Meet regularly with special education staff, and periodically with regular education staff to discuss status of special education program and students.
10.Act as a liaison to parents in order to facilitate communication with team members or address student or program concerns.
11.Work with special education staff to monitor and assess the quality of evaluations, reports, and services to students.
12.Oversees kindergarten screening and registration
13.Networks with outside agencies
14.Assess the effectiveness of student services and interventions.
15.Coordinates staff and student schedules, budget development and commits resources applicable.
16.Assumes responsibility of Team Chair.
17.Coordinates Statewide Assessments

Ability to:

  • Solve practical problems with staff

  • Give a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram or schedule form

  • maintain a professional demeanor at all times

  • understand and carry out oral and written instruction

  • establish and maintain filing systems

  • communicate professionally via, telephone, email and onsite visits

  • prepare and maintain various reports and correspondence using current computer applications

  • devise or adapt office procedures in response to changing organizational needs

  • proficiently operate standard office equipment

  • adhere to district policies, rules and regulations applicable to the school site

  • maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

Knowledge of:

  • strong written and verbal communication skills
  • current technology and software applications
  • office organization, procedures, and practices
  • principles and procedures of record keeping

Qualifications:

  • Broad background in Special Education

  • Evidence of ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily

  • Approved CORI and Fingerprint results

Education

  • A Master's Degree or Higher
  • DESE Administrator/Director License
