Department Summary

The mission of the Division of Student Affairs is to create solutions for a healthier community by fostering student success. There are 8 functional units within the Division of Student & Academic Affairs: Center for Student Life, Career Readiness Center, Center for Academic Performance, Office of Care and Civility, Testing and Evaluation Services, International Services, Office of Disability Access, and Student Assistance Resource Center.

Position Overview

The Division of Student Affairs at the University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire an Assistant Director, Student Services to join our team. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating a wide range of activities, programs, and initiatives aimed at supporting the successful transition, integration, and retention of first year students into the university community.

Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to: Supervision of Student Services Coordinator, Institutional Events Coordination, First year Experience Enhancement, Lead Student Engagement and Retention strategies, and Report data associated with institutional events and first year experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and four (4) years' of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work independently

  • Working knowledge of large scale event planning

  • Ability to work in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Masters degree and five years of experience in a related field.

Experience in large scale event planning. Previous experience managing budgets and resources in higher education. Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in computer technologies utilized in higher education institutions.

Must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability. Must be able to demonstrate professional communication skills. Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of student development theory and practice in higher education.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Job Duties:

  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and assess institutional events such as Commencement and New Student Orientation.

  • Oversee budgetary allocations, including planning, purchasing, and reconciliation for all institutional events and first year experiences programming, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with organizational goals and priorities.

  • Develop and implement strategies, programs, and initiatives specifically designed to support the successful transition, and integration of first year students into the university community.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrators across various departments to coordinate efforts and initiatives that support the holistic development and success of first year students and the execution of institutional events, i.e. Commencement and New Student Orientation.

  • Provide guidance, support, and oversight to ensure efficient and effective delivery of student services related to the coordination of New Student Orientation and First year programs.

  • Keep up to date of current trends, research, and best practices in student affairs, first year experience programs, and retention strategies to continuously enhance the quality and relevance of services provided to students. Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to institutional events, first year experience programs, and student engagement efforts to assess effectiveness, identify trends, and inform decision making.

  • Friday, 8am-5pm, with occasional evenings or weekends as required for divisional events
