SUBSTITUTE AND PERMANENT POSITIONS SUBS ARE ON CALL / AS NEEDED There are NO full-time Student Safety Monitor assignments. Assignments are typically 30 minutes to 2 hours per day, 9.5 months a year.
In addition, this position typically works in short intervals. Employees working under 20 hours per week are not eligible for insurance benefits. Hours and shifts vary by school site.
BASIC FUNCTION: Under general direction of the school principal or designee, supervises students on the playgrounds, cafeteria, and in other designated areas during non-instructional time. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
The classification of Student Safety Monitor is distinguished from the Campus Monitor in that the latter focuses on campus safety during instructional and non-instructional activities, while the Student Safety Monitor is focused on student safety only during non-instructional activities. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES Monitors and directs student behavior in non-classroom activities before, during and after school hours to maintain student safety. Directs and/or escorts students to class and non-instructional activities.
Promotes safe and appropriate student use of playground equipment and play areas. Assists students in resolving minor conflicts on the playground, cafeteria, and in other designated areas. Assists students as needed with opening of packaged lunch or other consumable items.
Helps with minor cleanup such as wiping down and clearing trash from tables in cafeteria (or designated eating areas) and ensuring students clean up after themselves. Ensures students safety during student pick up and drop off including loading and unloading of school buses and in designated drop-off locations. Identifies and reports damage to school property and safety hazards that may compromise student or staff safety.
Operates a two-way radio to communicate with school personnel. Performs related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICAT
