Job Description

1 Vacant Position

The Student Research Assistant, under general supervision, will work with faculty in the chemical engineering ,chemistry, and physics departments on projects such as the synthesis and characterization of non-centrosymmetric magnetic materials, chiral magnetic oxides, graphene and graphene-oxide metal ferrite nanocomposites, and metal oxide nanocomposites as part of the DOE-RENEW project.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conducts lab work including data collection and analysis

• Attend laboratory meetings and trainings

• Present lab work at conferences or other meetings

• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

• Presently enrolled at Prairie View A&M University for at least nine (9) graduate or six (6) undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done.

• Must be in good academic standing (SAP) as demonstrated through your college; minimum 2.0 GPA

• No prior experience necessary

• For work eligibility during a summer term, a student must be enrolled for at least three (3) graduate or undergraduate semester credit hours during the term in which the work is to be done or preregistered at least six (6) undergraduate semester hours or nine (9) graduate semester hours for the upcoming fall term.

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Completion of Chemistry 1 and/or Physics 1 courses

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• The ability to compile and record data in both computerized and non-computerized formats, particularly the ability to effectively utilize Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

• Working knowledge of basic laboratory safety principles

• Good interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to present findings in front of a small group or audience

Other Requirements:

• Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others

• Must be a self-starter, capable of working under minimal supervision and taking initiative and utilizing sound judgement and critical thinking in order to make informed decisions

• Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
