The University of Texas Permian Basin's Department Student Activity welcomes applications for the position of Student Orientation Coordinator

Salary Range

$12.00 an hour

Essential Functions

In this role, students will develop their own leadership ability and management style as they carry out a thoroughly planned orientation program. The position utilizes a student's own experience at UT Permian Basin to create a seamless flow for admitted students transitioning to enrolled students.

In addition, this position will also provide support for Student Life programs and events. Ideal candidates will be collaborative and innovative partners who possess strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. This person should be able to work independently and lead with kindness and integrity. General responsibilities for this position are listed under "Specific Tasks and Duties."

1.Office Hours and Weekly Meetings: Allocate 15-19.5 hours weekly from March to May for office hours and scheduled meetings with professional staff and SOC team members. This time is essential for reviewing Orientation Leader (OL) applications, addressing participant inquiries via email and phone, and collaborating on the development of orientation and OL program elements.

2.Attend NODA Regional Conference (if possible): Attend a pre-conference training session (scheduled in March based on availability) and the NODA Region 4 Conference at the University of Missouri-Columbia in Columbia, MO on March 22-24, 2024.

3.OL Selection: Be available for OL interview sessions and selection meetings in March/April.

4.OL Training: Plan all training sessions for orientation leaders, contribute to the facilitation of training components, and actively engage with teammates and campus partners during these sessions.

5.Peer Consultation and Support: Assist with supervising OLs during the summer by overseeing small group facilitations and campus tours and provide constructive feedback to enhance their performance.

6.Orientation Sessions: Maintain availability for all orientation sessions, with exceptions possible for pre-determined commitments during 1-2 sessions, such as in-person classes.

Responsibilities during orientation sessions include providing support during setup, check-in, advising and registration, and managing the family program. Additionally, assist OLs in leading campus tours, facilitating small group discussions, and coordinating activities for large groups.

7.Welcome Week: Contribute to the execution of Welcome Week events preceding the Fall 2024 semester, ensuring smooth operation and success.

Required Qualifications

1.Minimum 2.5 GPA

2.Previously worked as an Orientation Leader (Summer 2023)

3.Full-time student during long semester (12+ credit hours as an undergraduate; 9 credit hours as a graduate student)

4.Must be returning as a student in Fall 2024

5.Good standing with the Office of the Dean of Students

Preferred Qualifications

1.Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.

Standard Working Conditions

1.Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.

2.Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.

3.Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.

4.Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.

5.Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
