About the Program

UPMC's Student Nurse Internship (SNI) Program is a 10-week paid summer internship. An internship in Nursing at UPMC will give you experience engaging with some of the most important pieces of our business our patients! SNIs have an opportunity to:

  • Work directly with a trained preceptor 1-on-1! This is an amazing opportunity to build a relationship with your preceptor and see first-hand a day in the life of a nurse at UPMC!

  • Participate in supplementary educational sessions to continue your learning journey

  • Build your confidence as a future nurse

  • Work at one hospital on an assigned unit (assignment shared at time of offer)

  • Shadow! We know this experience is all about learning, and we want to help you find your sweet spot to start your nursing career at UPMC, so there are plenty of opportunities for shadow experiences (you may just be surprised at what you enjoy the most!).

  • Work up to 40 hours/week (Note: SNIs follow their preceptor's schedule.)

It doesn't end there! During your internship program, you will have the opportunity to network with UPMC Nursing Leadership, learn about system-wide opportunities, give back to the community, receive mentorship, and most importantly, make an impact on patient care and Life Changing Medicine. And, of course, have a little bit of fun too!

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an Associates or BSN nursing program with an expected graduation date of December 2020 or May 2021 required (Note: You must have completed at least your junior year or equivalent at the time of the SNI Program.)

  • Attendance at SNI Program Orientation required (May 20-21)

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred

  • BSN students preferred

  • Preference will be given to those students wanting to pursue a nursing career at UPMC upon graduation

  • Availability to participate in the SNI Program full-time from May to July 2020 for approximately 10 weeks with minimal absence (Yes, don't worry, you can still enjoy some summer vacation time!)

Licensure/Certifications

  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification throughout the entire SNI Program is required; SNIs will be required to bring proof of current AHA CPR certification to orientation

  • Additional clearances may be required based on location and specialty; specific instructions will be provided during onboarding/prior to start date

Recruitment Timeline Expectations*

  • August 15th November 1st: Application Open

  • Early August Early November: Video Interviews Conducted

  • Early Mid-November: Notification of Selection for Final Interviews & In-Person Final Interviews Conducted

  • Early December Early January: Verbal Offers Extended

  • Subject to change.

Performs clinical tests of hearing or hearing-related functions for the assessment of hearing abilities and/or for purposes of contributing to medical diagnoses of hearing and other neurological disorders, interprets and counsels patient as per the implications of the findings and, in appropriate cases, provides rehabilitative services primarily involving the use of hearing aids and other assistive listening technology. Responsibilities: * Performs other special duties: it is generally expected that an audiologist will develop some special skill and share this skill by accepting a special responsibility. * Demonstrates basics of service excellence towards patients, visitors, staff, peers, physicians, and other departments. * Sees that test equipment he/she uses is well maintained by being observant of signs of malfunctioning and reporting problems to the Senior Audiologist, Director, or service contractor (if appropriate). * Administration of routine Audiology tests. * Interpretation of test findings and management. * The audiologist shall demonstrate competence in administering no less than 5 tests beyond the basic audiologic test battery. * Performs additional hearing-aid related services. * The audiologist is expected to contribute to no less than two hours per year of didactic instruction to medical students or residents or ten hours per year of supervision of residents or Audiology Students. * The audiologist is expected to participate in no less than one public hearing screening program per year or other extramural public relation program of similar time commitment. * Using appropriate test methods, selects appropriate hearing aids for potential or known wearers, evaluates success with use of instrument, and provides counseling in the use of the instrument. * Takes part in clinical research projects as requested by the Director. Responsible for data collection, analysis, and written descriptions.
