Job Summary:

Responsible for the development of on-line, interactive education modules for both staff and volunteers including pre and post education surveys in support of our LEAN process goals. Under direction and supervision, performs routine, delegated tasks based on the department needs to further expand their knowledge base in a program.

These tasks contribute to meeting the daily needs of the work area and are performed within all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Reports to assigned Manager.

  • Junior, senior or graduate student in education, communication or health administration program

  • May require appropriate documented education in related classes specific to the department needs.

  • Basic office and customer service skills and experience

  • Proficient in Word/Excel/Powerpoint/Survey Monkey

Support Corps, The Salvation Army facilities/units and department heads with volunteer management. Responsibilities * Establish and maintain strong community relationships through outreach, including but not limited to volunteer fairs, college intern recruitment seminars, service learning events, as well as connecting with community-based volunteer resources. * Respond to telephone and web inquiries relative to volunteer placement including but not limited to high school students, college interns, company and United Way groups, and volunteers for programs and administrative support. * Ongoing identification of Divisional volunteer needs with Salvation Army Service Units, Corps, and facilities as is appropriate. * Recruit, screen, train, place, manage and acknowledge volunteers in Service Unit communities across the division, with an emphasis on the Christmas kettle Campaign and other Service Unit community events. * Support Corps Officers and department heads with meaningful volunteer placement by creating/updating volunteer project descriptions to provide volunteer direction based on need. * Process paperwork and maintain volunteer records/reports as required. * Ensure that volunteers seeking opportunities are connected with the appropriate Service Unit, facility or Corps and follow-up with the Service Unit, facility or Corps to ensure meaningful opportunities are provided. * Respond to telephone and web inquiries relative to volunteer placement including but not limited to high school students, college interns, company and United Way groups, and volunteers for programs and administrative support. * Develop and implement volunteer training and orientation schedules. * Ensure all volunteers working with minors or seniors are provided KeepSAfe training through the Divisional KeepSAfe Coordinator. * Provide educational and informational orientation to volunteers and donors when appropriate. * Ensure that local volunteers receive training relative to The Salvation Army policies and procedures in Service Unit operations. * Direct volunteer meetings. * Work with the Advancement and Program Department staff to support events, large volunteer efforts, and specialty volunteer groups. * Develop and maintain a volunteer management database for year-round, seasonal, and project-designated volunteers and maximize its capacity for efficiency and effectiveness. * Assist with coordination and publication of quarterly volunteer newsletter. * Assist with the maintenance of the volunteer web page and use social media to promote volunteerism in conjunction with the Service Extension Director and the Public Relations Specialist. * Attend selected events to promote The Salvation Army's mission and encourage involvement in volunteerism. * Assist with the development and implementation of annual Service Extension goals. * Assist Service Extension Director as needed. Bachelor's degree in related field highly preferred. * A minimum of three years of volunteer management experience in the non-profit setting is required. * Supervisory and communication experience. * Proficient in Microsoft Office is required. * Flexibility and a cooperative spirit are crucial. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Ability to understand what motivates a volunteer. * Creative thinker with innovative ideas. * Demonstrated self-motivator who is assertive and energetic. * Experience with volunteer tracking and/or database systems. * Valid motor vehicle driver's license, with regular access to a vehicle is required. * Must be able to travel to various communities within the Southern New England Division relative to volunteer recruitment, training, and placement. * Will respect and promote the interest of The Salvation Army.
