Job Description

Position Title: Student Information Systems (SIS) Technician

Term: 21.0 hours a week (Part-Time)

Job Category: Part-Time

Salary Range: $30.00 / Per Hour

Reports To: Director of Accountability and Information Systems

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Director of Accountability and Information Systems and Student Information Systems Coordinator, the Student Information Systems Technician performs a variety of specialized duties to coordinate and administer district and program level support and assure proper operation of assigned computer systems. Information Systems support includes, but is not limited to, oversight of Student Information Systems (SIS), databases and review of other information systems for timeliness and accuracy of reporting as they relate to student data collection. Helps coordinate and provide training and assistance to system users concerning system operations, software applications and malfunctions; provides for the effective and efficient storage, retrieval, customization, and reporting of student data.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform a variety of specialized duties to assure proper operation of assigned Student Information System (SIS); monitor, and modify existing programs to improve reporting, record maintenance, and assure compliance with established laws, codes, rules and regulations; integrate new software with existing computer systems.

  • Assist with the development of new services and expansion of existing projects related to student data and student information systems.

  • Monitor LEA and program goals and outcomes as relevant to SIS support.

  • Help coordinate and provide SIS training, direction and support to schools and staff.

  • Support all data requests.

  • Oversight of school site SIS data, including but not limited to set up of schools, daily attendance, grade reporting and teacher assistance.

  • Help coordinate and conduct individual and group training sessions to ensure employee understanding of student information system software applications; prepare related support materials; determine, coordinate and respond to County training needs; respond to, coordinate, and provide training for SIS data processing and reporting procedures, issues and requirements.

  • Coordinate response to problem reports and requests for information regarding usage of SIS.

  • Coordinate with staff, administrators and various outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities and resolve issues or concerns related to assigned computer systems.

  • Research and implement research based practices for student information systems to support continuous improvement of student data and data systems.

  • Help train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel.

  • Summarize and share out SIS updates, as appropriate via listserv, email, and in person communication.

  • Maintain various records related to assigned activities; ability to properly store data and pull for auditors, if needed

  • Support Student Information Specialists as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelors or Masters degree preferred.
  • 5 years experience working with student information software applications, network systems and databases.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, instructional manuals and legal documents.

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business or educational community.

  • Ability to effectively present information to staff, administrators, public groups/community, and board of education.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and in the display and interpretation of student information systems data.

  • Ability to apply basic concepts of statistical analysis, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to interpret and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to analyze information and use logic to address work related issues and problems.

  • Ability to quickly assess employee, departmental, and administrative needs and provide timely feedback.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

  • Ability to operate a personal computer and related software.

  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision.

  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the school community.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to organize and implement a flexible work schedule to meet the reporting deadlines.

  • Ability to self-monitor and manage multiple tasks while working individually and with members of a group.

  • Ability to submit all requested reports and documentation in a timely manner and in accordance with scheduled deadlines. The position requires meeting deadlines, and interacting with teachers, administrators, parents, and community members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as boxes of materials.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, listen and/or reach with hands and arms.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision.

  • Some driving required.

  • Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions. The noise level in this environment is situational and ranges from quiet to loud. Frequent interruptions and immediate attention to unexpected situations are expected.
