POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Student Information Systems (SIS) Administrator, you will manage, configure, and maintain the organization's student information system. You will ensure the accurate collection, storage, and retrieval of student data while supporting the institution's educational objectives and regulatory requirements.

This position is responsible for setting up, testing, analyzing, and maintaining the student information System application across multiple states and student information systems to achieve Vertex Education's goals. This includes but is not limited to, annual roll-overs, setting up schools, and courses, mapping to other systems, extensive data mining with queries and other tools, and assistance with the design and delivery of reports.

The SIS Administrator will also research, design, document, and modify existing setups and report specifications throughout the production life cycle. They will be the liaison between academics, schools we provide services to, and the student information system vendors for all service tickets. The SIS Administrator will assist all other department members as well as the users with all questions concerning the student information systems and related products and software. The SIS Administrator must possess a total understanding of all student processing functionality within the student information systems

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

System Administration:

  • Manage the setup, configuration, and maintenance of the student information system to meet the educational institution's needs.

  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to ensure data integrity and reliability.

  • Downstream integrations with applications and downloads to systems as needed.

Data Management:

  • Oversee student records data, including demographic information, grades, attendance, and disciplinary actions.

  • Develop and implement data validation, verification, and cleanup procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  • Generate and distribute reports, transcripts, and other documents as needed by school staff, students, and external stakeholders.

Training and Support:

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for troubleshooting SIS-related issues and assisting users with technical problems.

  • Participate in developing training materials, user guides, and documentation to support SIS usage and best practices.

  • Field incoming help requests from end users via the ticketing system. Appropriately document all information from incoming requests. Functions as primary contact person for incoming end-user SIS issues.

  • Prioritize incoming problems and schedule solutions accordingly. Escalate issues (as needed) to the appropriate person.

Integration and Collaboration:

  • Coordinate data imports, exports, and integrations between the SIS and other systems, such as learning management systems (LMS), assessment platforms, and third-party applications.

  • Collaborate with IT staff, educators, and administrators to ensure seamless integration and interoperability between SIS and other educational technology systems.

  • Oversee the development and success of the SIS throughout its lifecycle. This role will assist the business owner in understanding current application offerings, reviewing roadmaps, and devising a clear vision that is aligned with the overall company strategy.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Certifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, education, or related field.

  • Proven experience in student information systems administration, preferably in an educational setting.

  • Proficiency in SIS platforms (e.g., PowerSchool, Infinite Campus) and related technologies.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and customer service skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and adapt to changing requirements.

  • Knowledge of data management principles, regulatory compliance, and best practices in information security.

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Education Technology Leader, PowerSchool Certified Administrator) are a plus.

  • Understanding and development of reporting (SQL knowledge for PowerSchool is a plus).

BACKGROUND CHECKS

  • The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

  • Must be able to obtain and hold a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • A hybrid work environment requires a minimum of 3 days onsite work.

  • Travel between campuses is required from time to time.

  • This position requires the need to lift objects (up to 25 pounds) on occasion.

  • This position may require sitting for long periods at times, talking on the phone, standing, kneeling, stooping, and long periods of concentration.

  • Local and in-state travel required. Some out-of-state travel may be required.
