WVNCC seeks applicants for Student Information System (SIS) Database Administrator. 

The Student Information System (SIS) Database Administrator will serve as institution-wide support for the Microsoft SQL Server database environment including overseeing the development and organization of databases and data warehouse (internal and external), assessment and implementation of new systems and technologies, and utilizing tools to assist in the management and collegewide utilization of the database. The Database Administrator, with the Director of IT and WVNET, is responsible for the installation, maintenance, management, reporting, data integrity and security of the College database management systems and Ellucian Banner Student Information System (SIS) web applications.

Serves as the college's primary point of contact with WVNET and Ellucian.

 • Oversees Ellucian Banner, including Banner self-service products, and DegreeWorks across the college - both PPRD and PROD environments. 

 • Supports and leads business process improvement through improved/expanded utilization of Banner.

 • Troubleshoots Banner registration and Degree Works technology issues.

Systems Management

 • Maintains a working knowledge of all current and third party systems including connections to WVNET, WVNCC student portal, and WVNCC faculty staff portal, ARGOS reporting software, WVNET AI access for third party software, etc.

 • Advises on current and potential uses of SIS including system upgrades, envisions and manages change to the college's systems at the request of internal constituents. 

 • Evaluate new software product functionality for introduction into WVNCC's Information System environment.

 • Reports and escalates system issues to management as needed.

 • Leads integration initiatives for third party products/systems.

 • Working across all college departments, the specialist will provide ongoing, new and creative solutions to student database services including integration and upgrading current system and new systems which interact with student data.Convenes and leads Northern's Banner Super Users Group regularly, at least twice annually.

 • With the Super Users Group, provides end-user training for current employees and new hires on the use of all systems including navigation, terminology, data entry standards, data queries and report writing. 

 • Develop training materials, training plans and schedules. 

 • Create and update system documentation as needed for departments.Maintains effective working relationships with college administrators, faculty, and staff to ensure full utilization of Banner, Oasis, DegreeWorks, and related products across the college.

 • Develops and/or works with staff to create/develop/possibly maintain standard data reports customizable by the end user.

 • Provides technical and administrative support associated with software and systems such as report generation, population selections, research, audit requirements, etc.

 • Respond quickly and appropriately to internal constituents regarding any issues, bugs or programming errors that occur or in need of assistance related to the use of the both systems.

 • Serves on college and system level-committees, as assigned.

Data and Reporting:

 • Maintain a working and reporting knowledge of credit and noncredit data including student data, program and course data, personnel data related to individual, state reporting, federal reporting.

 • Safeguards confidential and/or sensitive data, files and documents.

Regulation

 • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.

Security

 • Serves as security administrator assigning, modifying and revoking security access for all user accounts, providing access to Banner and DegreeWorks for all college employees while maintaining regulatory compliance both test and production.

 • Work with IT Department to ensure all data is backed up. Assist with troubleshooting of database and system problems. Including back up requirements for third party software such as imaging system, text alert system and student ID card/door access system.

Professional Development:

 • Maintains current knowledge of software and computer hardware technology and industry standards. 

 • Works to gain additional knowledge of new and developing standards, systems, software, and hardware.

Works with external constituents:

 • Establishes and maintains relationships with third parties/vendors, as needed.

Registrar:

 • Assists with Course Schedule creation and maintenance within the Registrar's Office.

 • With the Registrar, ensures complete and accurate maintenance and retention of student records.Information Technology:

 • Serves as an expert resource as needed for IT development projects.

 • Work in conjunction with other members of the IT department to serve needs college-wide in the event of system-wide issues or network problems.
