Associate degree in a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Customer Service Skills, excellent written & verbal communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated skill and knowledge with PC/Mainframe/Internet (MS Office).
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Previous experience working with student financial aid programs or other higher education advising experience preferred
Summary of Duties:
Determines customer's individual needs, provides information to parents and prospective students. Interacts daily with students face to face, via telephone and email.
Summarizes conversations to student file for future references. Encourages students to utilize COTC and Ohio State's online services, portals and, webpages. Responds to student account-related questions regarding statements, payment options, payment deadlines, tuition rates, and 1098T tax forms.
Assist student with financial aid questions at different stages of the process. Explains aid programs, application procedures, eligibility criteria, why specific documents are requested, how to electronically accept awards, and how to use remaining funds for textbooks. Handles confidential material and communications; adheres to FERPA.
Records financial aid documents into the student files for verification and packaging review. Evaluates student's eligibility for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid, conducts verification of student and parent application data in compliance with federal criteria, determines types and amounts of financial aid to be awarded through the packaging process according to federal, state, and institutional requirements. Monitors individual student awards.
Resolves data conflict and over awards. Participates in training and professional organizations to keep abreast of new information and program changes to be implemented. Monitors and evaluates satisfactory academic progress of students and assist students with the appeal process. Sorts mail, data entry, filing, scanning, and performs accurate record keeping.
