Student Extern#- Radiology Trauma A Brief Overview Responsible for assisting respiratory staff in the care of patients according to established policies and procedures, maintaining equipment and supplies. The respiratory extern will perform all activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Respiratory Therapist. What you will do Performs selected activities and respiratory care as assigned and according to established policies and procedures. # Performs duties applicable to assigned unit or area, with the exclusion of all invasive procedures. # Transports patients, charts, specimens, equipment and supplies. # Assists with admission, transfer and discharge of patients including patient and family education. # Performs general duties such as relaying messages, maintaining equipment par levels and monitoring tank room. # Performs skills as outlined on Skill Checklist for Respiratory Extern including knowledge and behaviors, to meet age-specific patient needs. Reports and records all activities performed along with the patients# responses. # Reports unusual changes in the patients# condition or behavior as well as medical and surgical emergencies, (i.e., respiratory distress, bleeding and shock). # Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies). Works effectively as a team member within department and with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration. Monitors and maintains supplies and equipment. Assists with cardio-pulmonary resuscitation by bringing needed supplies to area immediately or as needed. Maintains a clean, orderly, safe environment. Adheres to established policies, compliance/quality improvement, and patient safety, environment and infection control standards. Complete required continuous training and education, including department specific requirements. Provides coverage for relief and absences as required. Qualifications Must be actively enrolled and in the second year of an accredited Radiology Technologist program leading to a clinical degree (Associate, Bachelor) or enrolled in an approved clinical training program. Required and Completion of fundamentals coursework in clinical program Required Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire Required or BCLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required Experience in patient care or equivalent on-the-job training as obtained through participation in an approved respiratory program Required Physical Demands Standing
