The School of Public Health at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Staff Associate/Student Engagement & Success Coordinator.

The Student Success Coordinator shall be skilled in academic advising, transcript review, and the degree clearance process. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist with international student recruitment, over see retention and satisfactory academic progress of students across the Advanced Certificate, Master of Public Health, and Master of Healthcare Administration Programs. The successful candidate is detail-oriented and has the skills to analyze forecast, and report extensively on data related to Student Success efforts. They must also be knowledgeable of the college's degree programs, graduation requirements, reasonable accommodation policies and academic integrity policies. Working under the supervision of the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, the incumbent will over see all student success activities, develop new strategic recruitment and retention strategies to ensure that prospective and current students receive a successful educational experience and support recruitment activities to increase overall enrollment at the institution.

Overall job tasks include, but are not limited to:

Student Retention and Success (40%)

  • Develops methods for early identification of students at-risk academically, implements processes for timely intervention, and assesses resolution.

  • Monitors students not in good academic standing; assists in developing and delivering programs and interventions to promote student transition to good academic standing.

  • Develops and provides linkages for tutoring to students as needed.

  • Manages appropriate documentation, conducts outreach around alerts and concerns and uses appropriate scheduling and note-keeping technologies to monitor student progress.

  • Coordinates workshops, check-ins, and additional mechanisms to support students working towards good academic standing.

  • Prepares materials and works with the Committee on Student Evaluation and Promotion and the SPH Doctoral Program Committee to monitor student performance regularly and to ensure timely communication with students and faculty advisors.

  • Develops processes for monitoring student remediation plans as designated by the Committee on Student Evaluation and Promotion of r students on academic probation.

  • Maintains appropriate records and data necessary for program outcomes assessment.

  • Coordinates with the Downstate Office of Student Affairs to ensure monitoring and compliance of students receiving reasonable accommodations through the Disability Center.

  • Works with students to develop and submit requests for leave of absence (LOA).

  • Assists new students and students returning from LOA in completing health clearances and any necessary procedures and paperwork required by SUNY Downstate.

  • Completes applications for LOA and submits to registrar's office.

  • Communicate with Department Chairs, faculty advisors, and the Chair of Doctoral Program Committee [for DRPH students] when students have begun and when they are returning from an LOA.

  • Communicates with students who have not registered for courses or leave of absence to maintain active status with the program.

Student Recruitment (60%)

  • Manages the public health email address to respond to recruitment inquiries about academic programs, admission requirements, and campus life to prospective students.

  • Takes detailed minutes at Weekly Students Affairs Meeting.

  • Assists international applicants in navigating the application process as well as visa requirements, financial aid options, and other relevant information.

  • Responds to prospective student questions and concerns on the public health phone line.

  • Coordinates the logistics for virtual information session and application completion workshop events (e.g. setting up Zoom link, confirmation of faculty and student speakers).

  • Participates in international recruitment events, including college fairs, school visits, and virtual information sessions.

  • Represents the institution at events both domestically and internationally to promote academic programs and attract qualified candidates.

  • Collaborates with School of Public Health Academic Departments, Office of Student Affairs and Enrollment, and other centralized Downstate campus departments to facilitate a smooth transition for admitted international students.

  • Works closely with faculty and staff to enhance the international student experience and foster a welcoming campus environment.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of interactions with prospective students.

  • Generate reports on recruitment activities and outcomes for analysis and strategic planning to Director of Admissions and Recruitment

Required Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in recruitment and admissions, student advising, or academic affairs is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree is preferred.

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (Full-Time)

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
