Position Information

The Student Disability Resources Center (SDRC) provides services for students with various permanent or temporary disabilities. These disabilities may include learning disabilities; attention deficit disorder; autism, visual, mobility, or hearing impairments; psychological disabilities; chronic systemic disorders (e.g., lupus, Crohn's disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes); fractures, strains, or stress injuries.

The Disability Specialist interprets medical documentation to recommend and facilitate reasonable accommodations for students to ensure their access to the educational opportunities at the University of California, Riverside. The Specialist works with individual students to determine eligibility for disability-related accommodations and services, providing appropriate follow-up and disability-related counseling. They serve as the campus resource specialist in the development of accommodations and academic adjustments for this population, providing ongoing consultation and problem-solving assistance to faculty and staff.

The full salary range for the Student Disability Specialist is $64,300.00 - $114,300.00 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $75,000.00 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Education

Education Requirements

Degree Requirement Advanced degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology or related field, or a Master's degree in counseling psychology, rehabilitation counseling, or related field, and two years of professional experience. Preferred

Licenses

License Requirement Licensed Psychologist. Preferred Licensed Educational Psychologist. Preferred

Certifications

Certification Requirement Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Preferred Learning Disability Specialist Certification Preferred School Psychologist Credential Preferred

Experience

Experience Requirement 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Experience conducting neuropsychological assessments or learning disability assessments.

Preferred Experience in interpreting psycho-educational reports and neuropsychiatric reports, and ability to apply this information for determination of appropriate disability accommodations. Required Experience in disability management and or crisis management with adults with disabilities. Preferred Experience working at a higher education research institution.

Preferred Demostrated experience in providing student success strategies. Preferred

Minimum Requirements

Thorough knowledge of assessment, accommodation, and intervention techniques involved in employee's specialty, for example, learning disorders, mobility disability, visual impairment, etc.

Skill in maintaining equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, or hostility.

Demonstrated multicultural competence and ability to work with a diverse population.

Strong Knowledge of the legal framework involving accommodations for students with disabilities through state and federal laws and regulations.

Thorough knowledge of procedures for assessing and determining disability accommodation issues, including the Disability Compliance Office procedures.

Superior communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate using tact and diplomacy with the internal and external campus community, including with people with a wide variety of disabilities and their representatives.

Demonstrated skill and ability to work effectively, independently, with diverse groups, as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.

Skill in translating observations, findings, and recommendations from analytical studies into a concise and logical written report.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to develop innovative approaches for preventative and developmental interventions.

Knowledge, skill, and experience in working with college age adults who have been diagnosed as having learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, neurological disabilities, psychological/psychiatric disabilities, and other co-occuring or complex conditions.

Demonstrated ability to develop and present programs tailored to a particular audience.

Demonstrated ability to train others in basic self advocacy, self helping, and coping skills.
