In partnership with families, local school districts and other services providers, KSD functions as a statewide education center where students come first.

Primary Role:

• Perform beginning level duties in providing supervision and instruction to students at the Kentucky School for the Deaf.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise students in the dorm to maintain accountability for student's whereabouts, safety and welfare.

• Escort and supervise students to cafeteria, recreational activities and school sponsored events.

• Provide tutoring and homework assistance to students with varying learning styles, abilities and motivational levels.

• Plan outings and educational programs to reinforce life skills and ASL/English mastery.

• Supervise athletic practices, games and other school functions as needed.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a second shift position and will be paid a 10% shift differential for second shift hours.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• American Sign Language (ASL) skills

EDUCATION: High School Graduate

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an instructional/counseling setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
