KSB has nearly 180 years of service whose mission is to provide comprehensive educational services to all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired, Kindergarten to age 21. KSB prides itself on helping all Kentucky students who are blind and visually impaired to develop their talents, their skills, and their attitudes to become confident, competent, and independent adults.

Currently, KSB has an opening in the Residential Section for a Student Development Assistant. As a Student Development Assistant, you will provide care, supervision, and instruction on second shift to students. Knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office and Google Office apps is preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide supervision and instruction to blind and visually impaired residential students regarding homework and study assistance at the Kentucky School for the Blind.

  • Maintain cleanliness of the dorm.

  • Assist students with independent living skills and conflict resolution skills.

  • Assist with literacy programs.

  • Assist students with organization of leisure time.

  • Interpret and apply school policies relative to the student development program, including discipline.

  • Maintain appropriate records and submit reports.

  • Attend meetings.

  • Complete and maintain student records and reports.

  • This position is a variable shift position that will work during second and third shifts. Shift premium pay is authorized for second and third shift hours.

  • This job classification is approved for the following shift premiums, in compliance with 101 KAR 2:034 Section 9(2), which are applied to the base salary:

  • Second shift: 10%

  • Third shift: 15%

Minimum Requirements

EDUCATION: High school graduate.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: One year of experience working with individuals in a student development or education program.

Working Conditions

Work is typically performed in an instructional/counseling setting.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
