Overview
Mount Marty University is pleased to accept applications for a Student Counselor and Coordinator of Learning Accessibility. This is an exempt, full-time, 10-month position and must adhere to the regulations stipulated in the Mount Marty University Handbooks. The Student Counselor and Coordinator of Learning Accessibility is responsible for the design, implementation, strategic planning, vision, and evaluation of comprehensive mental health services for Mount Marty University students. The position will provide individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, training, educational outreach programming, and consultation to the MMU community regarding student mental health issues. This person will also prepare statistical and or other written reports in accordance with responsibilities, participate in developing programs and departmental materials, and participate in and support student affairs initiatives and committees as appropriate. This position establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, as well as external community partners in support of student success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the mission of the Center for Academic Excellence and the Division of Student Affairs through direct student support and development of student-centered programs and initiatives.
Conduct intake interviews with students and determine appropriate course for care.
Provide personal counseling to students with a variety of presenting mental health challenges and make referrals to community resources as needed.
Coordinate outreach activities with community, academic, and student support services, and cultivate networks of resources on and off-campus.
Provide crisis intervention and support, including assessing any potential threats a student may present to him/herself or others.
Assist with student well checks and navigating student interpersonal conflicts.
Maintain confidential progress notes for caseload of students and document all services provided.
Evaluate, verify, and interpret documentation from various professionals and determine reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities.
Work closely with faculty and staff to ensure that students with disabilities are appropriately accommodated in all aspects of their college experience.
Meet individually with students to discuss current accommodations, assess need for reevaluation of accommodations, and foster student self-advocacy.
Qualifications
Master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology with special training in guidance counseling required.
At least two (2) years counseling experience.
Experience working with a diverse population.
