Summary:

The Student Affairs Senior Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Associate Dean and Associate Director of Student Affairs in all areas of student life at the law school, managing student-facing interactions of the department, and developing and implementing programs to foster students' continued success. This work includes but is not limited to communications to the student body, advising and programmatic support to student organizations and the Student Bar Association (SBA), wellness program development for students, faculty, and staff, and managing student engagement platforms. The coordinator is the principal administrative support to the Office of Student Affairs, consisting of the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Director of Student Affairs, and the Journal Coordinator.

Essential Functions:

  • Program Development and Execution
  • Wellness: Designs, manages, and implements wellness activities for students, including weekly classes (meditation; yoga), weekly wellness tabling, one annual wellness fair, two blood drives, and exam stress busters each semester (puppy day; mocktail events; events on managing law school stress). This includes working with vendors to procure goods and services for the wellness fairs; collaborating with main campus organizations (Jacobs Fitness Center, the Center for Well-Being Programs and Psychological Services) and other WCL student-facing office personnel to provide services to WCL students; and working with student organizations to plan and advertise wellness-promotion activities for the student body. Manages the WCL food pantry, including periodic inventory, reminders to students, and solicitation for donations as warranted.
  • Serves on the AU AhealthyU Wellness Council as liaison to WCL: Designs and carries out two AhealthyU events at WCL per semester. Manages communications between AU Wellness and WCL faculty and staff, including advertising for AhealthyU programs and participation.

  • Program Development and Execution

  • Student Life: Assists the Associate Dean for Student Affairs with the planning and implementation of Orientation and Commencement activities and other programs designed for community building and breaks from weekly routines. Strategizes with students and student organizations and solicits feedback and design input around Student Affairs program development to ensure quality and efficacy. Duties include designing program offerings, drafting and compiling materials, coordinating logistics (including catering), collaborating with relevant offices or departments, and other administrative tasks as assigned. Oversight and management of dean's fellows. Assistance with the Compass Program (1L onboarding throughout the first year).
  • Program Support
  • Student Organizations: Assists the Associate Dean in helping student organizations achieve their goals by: a) maintaining contact with all WCL student organizations to offer institutional support (training student leaders, oversight of meetings and programming, budget management); b) referring interested parties to appropriate student organizations; c) maintaining a list of organizations and organizational leadership; d) ensuring compliance with Student Affairs policies; and e) collaborating with student organizations in planning student events both to ensure successful attendance and to facilitate compliance with university policies and procedures. Duties include attending student organization general meetings to offer logistics ideas and support, and reporting to Student Affairs for strategizing around events being organized.
  • School-Wide
  • Community Building: Supervises the office dean's fellows in managing, approving, and publishing school-wide communications, and in managing the student organization contact list and assisting the faculty and staff in contacting groups of students. Oversees the Student Calendar on the Master Calendar/Engage platform and approves student-oriented events.
  • Student Affairs: Promotes Student Affairs services and programming and maintains web presence by supporting the office dean's fellows in managing Student Affairs social media, updating MyWCL the WCL website, and Canvas pages, in designing advertising graphics, and in managing the studentaffairs@wcl.american.edu account by responding to all inquiries of the office. Manages the Engage platform including organization management updates, submissions of OSA events, and supporting continued use of Engage by staff, faculty, and students by providing technical assistance.

  • Faculty and Staff: Manages communications between faculty, staff, and departments and the student body, acting as gatekeeper for class listservs. Liaises between AU's faculty and staff wellness program, AhealthyU, and WCL faculty and staff. Invites faculty and staff participation in student life and community-building activities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-Time, 35 hours/week.

  • This is a union-eligible position.

Salary Range:

  • $25.00/hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree.

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience

  • At least 3-4 years of experience in student affairs office or similar setting or the combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities required for the position

  • Expert knowledge of communications and social media platforms (including Instagram, X/Twitter, and LinkedIn)

  • Expert knowledge of general office software (email, word processing, spreadsheets, publishing).

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Prior work with students, familiarity with database systems, and prior supervisory experience highly desirable.

  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented.

  • Prior work managing multiple duties in a given day or week.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

  • The position of Student Affairs Senior Coordinator requires decision-making abilities, well developed time management, and excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Some weekend and evenings hours are required.
