Position Summary:

The Student Affairs Fellowship Program is a comprehensive experience that combines hands-on learning, one on one mentorship, and professional development in the field of Student Affairs. It is a full-time, live-on position with some potential residence hall responsibilities depending on assignment and concentration. This stipend position requires some evening and weekend hours. Fellows are appointed for one year, with the potential for a second year renewal based on performance. The program emphasizes relationship building, enhancing student engagement, and providing support for students, while also managing administrative and operational tasks.

Compensation: Fellows are awarded an $18,000 annual stipend, on-campus housing, meal plan while classes are in session, and access to our tuition exchange program.

General Duties:

  • Community Development: Develop and implement community building strategies to create a supportive environment on campus utilizing student development theory to shape educational and social programming that meets students' needs.

  • Student Support and Supervision: Offer guidance and support to students with academic and personal concerns. Role Model expected behavior and health interactions on campus.

  • Student Conduct and Resolution: Address student concerns, handle and/or refer behavioral issues, assist in the management of crisis situations, and serve as an advocate for students.

  • Visibility and Availability: Maintain office hours, participate in campus-wide events, and maintain a visible presence on campus.

  • Administrative Tasks: Prepare reports, manage records, and assist in the oversight of facility operations during events and activities (pending assigned concentrations).

  • Participation in Campus Events: Engage in campus events, including speakers, programs, weekend activities, facilitate evening and weekend programming to foster a vibrant community atmosphere.

  • Role Model and Collaboration: Act as a positive role model, promotes collaboration among students and organizations, and communicate any conflicts of interest to supervisor(s).

  • Other Duties as Assigned: Complete additional tasks as needed to support the Student Affairs department and the college community as a whole.

Concentrations:

Each fellow will be assigned 2-3 concentration areas based on experience, interest and need. Please refer to the concentration areas outlined below,

  • Student conduct: Support a comprehensive student conduct program to address Student Code of Conduct violations; Assist in the investigation and adjudication or student conduct cases, and help coordinate conduct board meetings; Ensure coordination among various areas responsible for student conduct, assisting with the provision of leadership and training on the conduct database. Assist with Title IX, VAWA, and Clery trainings and workshops.

  • Student Engagement: Organize and market Student Engagement programs and events. Assist in the oversight of event planning, risk management and evaluation of student-run events. Manage and inventory programming supplies and help to facilitate evening and weekend programming campus wide. Fellow will also be required to advise at least one club or oversee and specific program within student engagement (ex. Campus Activities Board Spring Fest; Involvement Fair; Peace Day; Fresh Check, etc.); Transport Students to and from events utilizing campus vans as needed.

  • Leadership Development: Support the development of student leaders through Club and Organization training, administrative oversight of the Future Leaders at Mitchell Program, Elevate Series and other components of Mitchell's Leadership Education, Advocacy and Development Program. Assist with OL, RA, and CA training. Manage Mitchell Leads Marketing and recruitment. Plan and facilitate the involvement fair each semester. Assist in the Planning of Club Officer elections, trainings and transition meetings.

  • Service Learning: Collaborate with the Campus VISTA on service learning opportunities; Manage the Mariner Market, snack and food pantry; Plan and facilitate service programs and build partnerships with community organizations; Assist with recruiting student volunteers for community events and service projects; Assist in the development of a service learning manual and resource guide; Help to increase the number of partnerships with community organizations and student involvement is service; Assist in the development of a service learning manual and resource guide.

  • Administrative Services/Mailroom: Oversee mailroom operations, including sorting and delivering mail, and managing shipping and receiving. Ensure effective customer service in the mailroom. Assist Student Engagement with administrative tasks including publicity, event reservations, social media and floor plan; Assists in the tracking of all programs, events and departmental initiatives on one centralized monthly campus calendar and the management of Unihub; May be required to transport students to and from events utilizing campus vans as needed.

  • Career Services: Assist in the development of career-focused programming and workshops; support the coordinator for integrated career services in organizing career related events and resources including the community breakfast. Under the supervision of the Dean and Coordinator of ICD, host workshops on career readiness and job fairs; May be required to transport Students to and from events utilizing campus vans as needed.

  • Intramurals and Club Sports: Contribute to the development of an active intramurals and club sports program, assisting with recruitment, planning and team development; Manage the planning, advertising, organization and facilitation of intramural and club sport event and competitions.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of an Associates' degree or equivalent in academic credit is required

  • 1-2 years of experience in student activities, leadership development and/or residence life within a college or university setting preferred.

  • Adept at working with technology and various social media platforms strongly preferred

  • Requires flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm with a strong desire to effect change and impact student development

  • Superior interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Ability to form and maintain positive relationships with a broad range of individuals and commitment to treating all members of the community with respect

  • Ability to work collaboratively within the department and across campus

  • An appreciation and understanding of working in an inclusive, engaging and diverse college environment.

  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

  • General knowledge of computer systems.

  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds.

  • Valid state driver's license.
