Hybrid or On Campus On Campus Position Summary

The University Center Assistant Director for Student Involvement and Outreach is an integral member of the University Center leadership team. This position is responsible for overseeing the planning and direction of Student Involvement Student Involvement and marketing of the University Center and related activities to advance University Center goals and objectives. This includes University Center Marketing/Ecology, Recognized Student Organizations (RSOs), and Student Events and Activities.

Responsibilities

50% Leadership and Supervision

  • Serves as a member of the University Center Leadership team, contributing to the assessment, planning, decision making, and implementation of University Center goals and initiatives.

  • Oversees all Student Involvement areas and University Center outreach, including UC Marketing and Ecology, Recognized Student Organizations, and Student Events and Activities

  • Develops, plans, and directs staff implementation and operational work plans of Marketing/Ecology and Student Involvement areas.

  • Evaluates and promotes short- and long-term existing strategies and makes recommendations for University Center Marketing/Ecology efforts and Student Involvement areas.

  • Contributes to the design of student-focused programs and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing University Center program initiatives.

  • Answers questions and provides information regarding Marketing/Ecology and Student Involvement to individual students and groups.

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of the Budget and Operations Specialist and Student Involvement Events and Activities Manager.

  • Supervises indirectly student interns.

  • Meets regularly one-on-one with individual staff members.

  • Oversees University Center website.

  • Assists with student staff recruitment, selection, training, development, and recognition.

  • Supports the university's educational mission and value for diversity by creating an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University Center.

  • Assists in the establishment of goals and priorities for the University Center Marketing and Student Involvement budgets.

  • Develops, monitors, and adjusts University Center Marketing and Student Involvement assessment tools and plans, and prepares the annual report.

  • Participates in the University Communications and Marketing (UCM) Campus Communicators group in an effort to manage promotion of campus messaging that is coordinated, consistent and jointly amplified for the best possible outreach and impact.

  • Builds collaborative relationships across the university with stakeholders such as Residence Life, Dining Contractor, Chancellor's Office, Facilities Management, Admissions, and Parking Office.

  • Monitors departmental inquiries and requests to promptly manage responses to campus departments and non-affiliated university groups.

  • Participates and contributes to department meetings, including University Center leadership team, Student Involvement team, and department-wide meetings.

  • Attends evening and weekend meetings, events, and departmental commitments where necessary or indicated, such as departmental events, and staff trainings.

  • Represent the University Center in university functions and committees outside the department, such as Chill on the Hill, Homecoming, Week of Welcome, Chancellor's Award for Students, Campus Communicator Committee, athletic events, etc.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the University Center Director for Event Services and Student Involvement or other university administrators.

40% University Center Student Involvement and Outreach

  • Assists with the development and evaluation of proposed University Center Marketing/Ecology initiatives, project manage the initiatives, oversee budget, and assess impact.

  • Provides oversight on Recognized Student Organizations' efforts, including RSO software tools, training, eligibility, policies, events, marketing, budget, and recognition, as well as minimum oversight for Sorority and Fraternity Life.

  • Provides oversight for student events and activities efforts, including software tools (Corq App, mobile check-in, etc.), reservations, production, catering, contract of services, marketing, budget, and social media.

  • Collaborates with leaders in the University Center to create an engaging environment for students.

  • Works closely with the UCM graphic designer on the development of marketing materials, including webpages, print and social.

  • Works in coordination with (UCM) to plan, direct and implement marketing efforts for the University Center and Student Involvement.

  • Collaborates with University Center leaders on student feedback to create an inclusive environment at all events and activities.

10% Administration

  • Assists with campuswide events and initiatives.

  • Provides oversight for Student Involvement personnel records and payroll.

  • Ensures training and implementation of risk management, safety, and security for student interns and RSO leaders.

  • Oversees Voter Registration for students.

  • Oversees annual student engagement survey.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, College Personnel, Psychology, Marketing Communications or a related field

  • Minimum of 5 years post bachelor's experience in student development-related area

  • Experience in marketing, events and activities, and social media

  • Experience with budget management

  • Experience in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating professional staff

  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, direction, and management for initiatives and comprehensive programs

  • Excellent decision-making, organizational, task-management, and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with various constituencies, including students, parents, colleagues, and administrators

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in marketing, and events and activities in a college or university environment

  • Experience working with a comprehensive student organization management software system
