Henry Ford College presents an opportunity for a Student Activities Associate. This is an 11-month position.

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Activities, the Student Activities Associate is primarily responsible for the operations of the student food pantry and assisting with the development, implementation, coordination, and promotion of student programming in the Office of Student Activities (OSA) for the engagement of students on campus as well as in the community-at-large.

The Student Activities Associate supports the services and functions provided by the Office of Student Activities while fostering a team-focused environment. The Associate will model concepts of event planning, outstanding customer service, and utilize effective communications skills in providing assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community members.

The Student Activities Associate assists in support of special projects and other duties, as assigned. The Associate will employ problem solving and conflict resolution skills appropriately. They will assist in the continuous improvement and execution of processes and procedures that ensure quality service and compliance with school procedures and college-wide policies. The Associate will contribute productively to team meetings as well as department and/or college-wide committees and work groups.

This position includes a significant amount of event planning and evaluation, creativity, internal and external collaboration, customer service, teamwork, and contact with HFC students, staff, faculty, and vendors the public at large.

Hours: Monday

  • Friday from 8:30 a.m.

  • 5:00 p.m. (evening and weekend hours required).

  • Three (3) years of relevant experience working in a post-secondary institution with a student life, student services, or student affairs department with a focus on event planning, student groups, and office management.

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in student personnel, leadership development, or an appropriate field. A relevant combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a conferred degree.

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Working knowledge of computer software: Microsoft Windows with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, Excel (spreadsheets), PowerPoint, and Teams.

  • Ability to write and prepare reports and other correspondence.

  • Assist with the daily operations of the student food pantry, Hawks' Nest:

  • Fill staffing needs with student workers.

  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule food drives as needed.

  • Track student use; maintain accurate records of food distribution.

  • Track food inventory.

  • Track donations (food and monetary).

  • Creatively promote the resource.

  • Collaborate with local agencies in the development, design, and coordination of volunteer, community, and service projects, (e.g., Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service and Make a Difference Day).

  • Assist with the operations of the National Society of Leadership and Success. (Leadership recruitment, orientation, scheduling, and program requirements).

  • Assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of leadership training and initiatives that promote professional and personal growth, and student success.

  • Assist with the development and achievement of departmental goals and initiatives.

  • Assist with the oversight of club activities and events.

  • Assist student clubs with the planning and organizing of activities and attend individual club meetings as needed.

  • Attend monthly club meetings hosted by the OSA.

  • Maintain the master events list with accurate records of student activities, events, and programs.

  • Assist with the development and coordination of global awareness and cultural activities, (e.g., Black History Month, Arab American Heritage Month, Hispanic American Heritage Month, PRIDE Month, etc.).

  • Assist with the development and coordination of wellness programs to promote a healthy lifestyle.

  • Develop, coordinate, and monitor student body programming, including game shows, talent showcases, Lunchtime Concert Series, etc.

  • Work with performers and agents to negotiate contracts and complete necessary paperwork.

  • Coordinate and implement evening and weekend programming as needed.

  • Assist with the coordination, promotion, and scheduling of the fall and winter Welcome Back events.

  • Assist with the facilitation of the voter registration program and other civic engagement programs.

  • Assist with the facilitation of the annual student recognition awards program.

  • Assist with the conveyance of College policies and procedures to student clubs and other constituents.

  • Assist with the promotion and support of the OSA, programs, student clubs, and activities in a variety of forms.

  • Evaluate programs for improvement and student needs.

  • Assist with the revision of the student handbook process.

  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.

  • Participate in standing College committees.

  • Perform other professional duties as assigned.
