The Student Accounts Specialist II is responsible for advanced nonexempt work requiring understanding of a specific knowledge of the work unit, as well as a broader range of duties with more flexibility in making decisions and carrying out tasks (within prescribed procedures) for some functions within the work unit.

This position is responsible for performing advanced cashiering and accounts receivable functions and assists in the collection of money on delinquent accounts.  This position is responsible for reviewing, preparing, processing and verifying documents and data for the accounts receivable function to ensure these are in compliance with College procedures, and state and federal regulations. This position reports to the Student Accounts Manager and actively participates in a collaborate, positive and team environment. This is a full-time, 12-month, benefit eligible position.

Salary & Benefits

  • Full Salary Range: $18.25 - $26.27/hour - depending on education and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $18.25 - $22.26 - depending on education and experience

  • Cafeteria Plan: In addition to the base compensation, benefits-eligible employees receive an extra $5,640 per year to put toward benefit costs or to be used as additional take-home pay

  • Paid Holidays: 21 (including a full week off between Christmas and New Year's Day and over Spring Break)

  • Provides necessary information to students, parents, and staff and outside customers regarding billing and educational tax form questions, payments on account, enrollment information, payment plans and refunds. This can be done either in person, phone or email.

  • Reconciles daily totals from debit card machine, cash and checks .Also assists in the close out of the debit card machine at the end of every day.

  • Provides excellent customer service to all college students, employees, outside vendors, and all other constituents.

  • Assists in contacting students regarding Drops for non-payment for each term. Assists in verifying all accounts to ensure there is no financial aid or a third party agency authorization on file to hold classes.

  • Assists in monitoring Account Receivable holds.

  • Receives and records student payments in the form of cash, check, credit card, etc. Ensures accuracy of all charges and credits on student accounts.

  • Processes student refunds

  • Reviews parking tickets in parking management software and Banner to ensure proper charges and payments to accounts.

  • Payment plan account maintenance.

  • Adheres to PCI Compliance and FERPA requirements.

  • Receiving, monitoring and posting third party hold authorizations and payments

  • Assists in reporting and managing accounts which are forwarded on to collections, including disputes

  • Creating JVs for miscellaneous payments, posting in Banner and desktop check deposits

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of cashier functions and cash balancing procedures.  Knowledge of advanced accounts receivable principles and practices. Skill in using an integrated computer system; in performing standard mathematical computations; and is effective written and interpersonal communication.  Ability to problem-solve and analyze; to demonstrate tact and patience to resolve student complaints and concerns; and to perform work in a busy office environment.

Associates degree in business or accounting or related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job and/or as approved by the Human Resources department.

Preferred

Experience in an educational institution. Experience with Microsoft Office products or similar software.  Experience with Ellucian Banner administrative system, or an equivalent system.
