Job Description:

As a member of the Office of the Bursar, this position supports the Student Solutions Center and will provide student focused support to all SUNY Old Westbury students and their families in a fast paced, collaborative, and supportive environment via in-person, telephone, and email interactions. This position will be responsible for answering student and family questions, facilitating transactions, resolving issues, offering guidance, and advocating on behalf of students to other campus offices.

The Office of the Bursar coordinates the billing process, handles all payments made toward students' accounts, manages the payment plan, disburses financial aid payments, processes all refunds from over-payments, calculates refunds due to withdrawals, processes past due notices, assigns delinquent accounts to New York State Attorney General's Office, and performs other miscellaneous financial functions. The Student Account Specialist reports to the Bursar and the Associate Bursar.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Review and identify student accounts in a delinquent status. Process communication notices to students and maintain accurate lists for assignment.

  • Assign delinquent student accounts to the New York State Attorney General's Office, includes research and response as needed.

  • Process and record payments received from the Office of the New York State Attorney General. Review monthly AG File and update student accounts as needed.

  • Process and record payments received for students' accounts in Banner.

  • Close-out and reconcile daily cash drawer.

  • Assist with processing student refunds during peak periods.

  • Review accounts and outreach to payees for outstanding checks.

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, University offices, and outside agencies.

  • Answer office telephone and respond to students' emails.

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and SUNY policies and procedures.

  • Assist students at the Bursar/Student Solutions Center counter.

  • This position will require evening and/or weekend hours, as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, we will consider an Associate's degree and two (2) additional years of professional related work experience.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a business, finance, or accounting office.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and ability to listen.

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of team.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during peak periods, including evening and/or weekend hours.

  • Ability to display and execute good customer service skills.

  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.

  • Detailed oriented and strong problem-solving skills.

  • Experience working with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience in a business, finance, accounting or higher education office. Experience to include billing, daily reconciliation of monetary transactions, including credit card transactions and third party vendors, monitoring electronic payment transactions and interfacing and servicing customers regarding the above.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and Excel.

  • Bilingual: English and Spanish.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $49,261.00 - $50,000.00 plus location pay $3,400.00
