Lockheed Martin Rotary & Mission Systems (RMS) is conducting flight testing on the Sikorsky CH-53K King Stallion at the customer's facility on Naval Air Station Patuxent (PAX) River. We are looking for talented and qualified applicants to join the flight test team on this continuing exciting adventure.
The structures/dynamics flight test engineer (FTE) plans, conducts, manages and reports on helicopter flight tests with respect to structures and dynamics. Responsibilities include initial envelope expansion and development tests, flight loads/strain and vibration surveys, dynamic stability tests and structural oversight of tests performed by other disciplines.
Test planning function involves determining measurement and flight condition requirements necessary to safely provide evaluation, qualification and certification data. These details are written into published test plans. Test conduct involves briefing flight and ground crews and providing real-time telemetry monitoring of critical parameters. Large volumes of gathered flight test data are processed and analyzed to support development and/or certification/qualification. Test results, conclusions and recommendations are published in reports.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 2 years of professional experience; or a related Masters degree. Considered career, or journey, level.
Candidates must have the ability to obtain a DOD security clearance to at least the Secret level.
The job involves significant teamwork and coordination with flight test co-workers in a variety of disciplines (pilots, mechanics, inspectors, instrumentation and data technicians), qualification or certification authority representatives and subject matter expert design engineers. Good interpersonal skills are imperative. Personal flexibility is required to occasionally support unusual working hours and travel to conduct off-site testing.
Work will be performed at the customer's facility in Patuxent River, MD. While working at Pax River, Sikorsky employees must follow operating procedures as established by the customer which include:

Must currently have and/or be capable of obtaining a security clearance.
Must currently have or be capable of successfully completing an NCIC criminal background check to access Pax NAS.
Must currently have or be capable of obtaining full unescorted access Pax NAS.
Must have a valid photo ID (driver's license + social security card or birth certificate OR US passport).
Must have valid driver's license/vehicle insurance to drive on base at Pax NAS.
This position is dependent upon the anticipated duration of the CH-53K helicopter flight test program through final operational capability, currently planned no earlier than December 2023*. At the conclusion of the CH-53K flight test program, the employee may be offered the opportunity to relocate to the RMS Sikorsky West Palm Beach facility to support future flight test programs, pending business conditions.
