Education and Experience Requirements: You must meet one of the following requirements:
Graduation from a four-year full-time apprenticeship program in the plumbing trade recognized by the N.Y. State Department of Labor, U.S.
Department of Labor, or any state apprenticeship council which is recognized by the U.S.
Department of Labor; or
Two years of full-time journey-level experience (i.e.: fully trained, knowledgeable, proficient and competent) as a plumber in the plumbing trade, preceded by one of the following:
Two years of full-time experience as a helper, apprentice or trainee performing or assisting in the plumbing trade; or
Graduation from an approved trade school or technical school, with a major course of study in plumbing or a closely related field, totaling 600 hours; or
Graduation from a vocational high school with a major course of study in plumbing; or
An Associate's degree or a higher degree in plumbing, or a closely related field, from an accredited college or university.
The vocational high school, technical school, or trade school must be approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization. The college or university must be accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

If you qualify under "2" above, your appointment will be subject to the receipt of a Class B CDL valid in the State of New York with no restrictions no later than six months into the probationary period. If you fail to successfully receive the Class B CDL, valid in the State of New York, with no disqualifying restrictions, your employment will be terminated.
Commercial Motor Vehicle Driving Experience in the Military or New York National Guard: If you are an active member or former member (discharged in the past year) of the military or New York National Guard and have experience driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle in the military or New York National Guard, you may be eligible for a waiver of the New York State commercial driving skills test through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. If you believe that you may be eligible for this waiver, you must apply for the waiver through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
Medical Requirement: Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Structure Maintainer
Drug Screening Requirement: You must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed, and if appointed, you will be subject to random drug and alcohol tests for the duration of your employment. Additionally, if you have tested positive on a drug or alcohol test or had a refusal to test during pre- employment or while employed by a Federal DOT-regulated employer during the applicable period, you must have completed the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) evaluation, referral and education/treatment process required by federal law in order to be appointed to this safety-sensitive position.
Residency: New York City residency is not required for this position.
English Requirement: You must be able to understand and be understood in English to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
Proof of Identity: Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, you must be able to prove your identity and your right to obtain employment in the United States prior to employment with MTA Bus Company.
