The Colorado Department of Military & Veterans Affairs (DMVA) has four major operational divisions: Army National Guard, Air National Guard, Civil Air Patrol, and Veterans Affairs. Description of Job

This position is part of our Army National Guard division and will work at our Ft. Carson Space Force location as part of the Army Facilities Management branch. This position will work as part of a team to perform general trades maintenance activities Working hours are Tuesday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • repairing, applying, and finishing drywall, patching holes in walls, texturing, and re-gluing cove bases on a variety of surfaces to include stucco, concrete, and metal;
  • prepping, priming, and painting interior and exterior surfaces using a variety of paint;
  • transporting, assembling, moving, disassembling furniture and equipment;
  • cleaning, sweeping, mopping mechanical rooms, worksites, and shop areas upon completion of tasks;
  • digging holes and trenches to repair and install sprinkler systems;
  • replacing light bulbs, ballast, and controls in a variety of environments;
  • maintaining grounds to include raking lawns, pest control, fencing, sweeping sidewalks, and sprinkler systems;
  • scheduling grounds watering schedule, cutting and trimming lawns, flower beds, trees, and removing weeds and applying pesticides;
  • snow removal using shovels, snow blowers, and front end loaders and tractors;
  • inventorying, maintaining, and cleaning equipment, tools, shops, and supply cabinets on a daily basis;
  • performing administrative tasks such as inspecting facilities, checking and maintaining hazmat and SDS sheets, updating hazardous material inventories, and preparing a variety of documents as required;
  • escorting contractors and suppliers on base and inspecting their work;
  • operating a variety of tools and equipment;
  • performing a variety of physical activities such as erecting scaffolding, operating boom lifts and scissor lifts, lifting furniture, and lifting and moving large ladders;
  • processing work requests and work orders in a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS); and
  • other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be able to perform physical work involving general tasks including hauling, lifting, moving, and digging;

  • Must have a mechanical aptitude.

  • Must be willing and able to operate a variety of hand tools and equipment.

  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Must possess a valid and current State of Colorado Driver's License.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be willing to pass a background check at initial employment and every few years thereafter.

  • Continued employment is conditional upon the successful completion of a security clearance within the first nine months of employment.

  • Must be willing to submit to random drug and alcohol testing.

  • Must be willing to work overtime and on-call as needed.

  • Must be willing to work after hours or pre-hours performing snow removal operations and/or assisting other areas as needed.

Appeal Rights
