Description of Job

This full-time position is located in the Facilities Department at Community College of Aurora and provides ongoing and preventative maintenance for buildings and grounds, ensuring efficient, quality service for the staff, faculty and student body. Position will operate a variety of equipment and tools to maintain the campus buildings.

Position will apply various trades skills including plumbing, carpentry, painting, locksmith, electrical and HVAC. Specific duties include: perform minor repairs on pipes, toilets, sinks, and drinking fountains; and minor electrical repairs in changing out light bulbs and florescent tubes. Position will mud and tape drywall, and apply latex and oil base paints to walls and floors throughout the campus; and patch and prime walls.

Position will construct new walls; assist in the demolition of old structures; perform framing, drywall, mud, and install cove base. Hang bulletin boards, whiteboards, pictures, etc. Assist with HAVC maintenance to include filter changes, coil cleaning, greasing motors, and changing belts.

Make minor adjustments to the building automation system. Assemble new office furniture and move furniture throughout the college as requested. Position will also assist with large set ups for events and other duties as assigned.

Assist with snow removal and sweeping entry ways. Utilize a computer to complete timesheets and leave requests, read and respond to email, etc.

Position will utilize Microsoft Office 365 to include Outlook to check calendar/email/voice mail for requests, and follow up with requestors as needed; Word to create correspondence, etc.

Position will operate state vehicles. Must be a team player and work well with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience Only:

Two years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades (building maintenance trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, locksmithing & painting maintenance). Application must list specific experience related to position. Ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills to include communicating with and responding to all levels of employees in a professional environment.

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application detailing relevant experience. Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated).

OR

Education and Experience:

Successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or higher level course work from an accredited, non-correspondence, vocational or trades school in Construction Technology or Property Maintenance may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. A copy of your transcripts must be submitted with your application prior to the application deadline.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles, attend meetings, pick up supplies, travel between campuses, etc.

Must submit to and successfully complete a pre-employment background check to include a motor vehicle report (MVR) as a condition of hire. Position will share on-call duties to respond to after hours emergency situations. Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide CCA Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.

Preferred Qualifications: More than two years of experience in general building maintenance.

Experience operating a forklift truck. Lead paint awareness. Some knowledge in building codes.

Basic computer skills. Prior experience utilizing Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience using power actuated tools.

Appeal Rights:
