Collins Engineers, Inc., a top 500 ENR Design firm, is seeking an experienced Structural Project Engineer for our growing Salt Lake City office.

The Project Engineer contributes technical expertise to the successful execution of projects including but not limited to:

  • Load ratings and structural design projects

  • Design of bridges, transportation structures and earth retention structures

  • Inspection of bridges and other structures, including construction inspection.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Provides technical engineering expertise to Project Manager and/or client to ensure the project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications and design instructions.

  • Reviews, analyzes and resolves field and/or design issues.

  • Performs complex engineering computations involving conventional engineering practices.

  • Prepares complete engineering plans or reports.

  • Demonstrates strong proficiency in computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.

  • Makes design recommendations and/or adaptations.

  • Is active in technical societies.

  • Publishes engineering papers and/or articles.

Project Management

  • Responsible for engineering projects of varying size and complexity in field or office in accordance with plans and specifications.

  • Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work.

  • Is familiar with project budgets and timelines, and apprises the Project Manager of potential or anticipates changes in scope.

  • Assists in coordinating project schedules and timely completion of projects.

Business Development / Marketing

  • Assists in proposal preparation, project scoping, and estimating project costs.

  • Is available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.

Leadership / Management

  • Directs and supervises the work of other engineers, technicians, drafters and administrative staff.


  • Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety.

  • Ensures that staff needing specialized training in health and safety procedures and practices receives such training and that safety is discussed as an important aspect of their work.


Bachelor's degree and/or masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year university.

  • 3-5 years or more experience in project engineering

  • Experience in the inspection and/or design of, but not limited to, bridges and other structures


Professional Engineer (P.E.) or ability to obtain within one year

EIT/FE required

Valid Drivers License

VIEW JOBS 2/18/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-18T00:00 Purpose of Position The Project Engineer for "Engineered-to-order" (ETO) products and Plant Systems manages the technical aspects of medium to large engineering projects containing either the supply of FLSmidth Products or the engineering of samll Mineral Processing Plant islands. Projects containing ETO Products delivers proprietary FLSmidth equipment that has been standardized to a degree but where customization may be done to meet client requirements. Projects delivering a plant typically are complex and multi-disciplinary engineering projects integrating proprietary FLSmidth equipment as well as external industry equipment vendors and or service providers. The Project Engineer are responsible for the total technical delivery of the scope of the project within budget, on time and within specification. Key Accountabilities * Ensures the team's delivery on technical engineering project execution on medium to large industrial multi-system projects and potentially smaller scope Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) projects * Ensures that technical requirements of the project are met in engineering design and the creation of deliverables * Interfaces with the customer to address and collaborate on all project technical matters * Oversees and coordinates the development of engineering design and documentation by internal resources * Ensures the quality of engineering deliverables and documentation is acceptable to all stakeholders * Oversees and coordinates equipment selection and supply with external vendors and suppliers * Manages the change request process for all technical issues * Collaborates and communicates with other operational groups, including but not limited to Project Management, Procurement and Quality * Promotes a culture of personal and team safety, including others who may be affected by the company's operational activities * Technical customer facing communication (TQ's, Clarifications, Concessions, Changes) * Procurement interfacing * Vendor communication * Technical Adjudication of vendors * Engineering milestone scheduling * Project technical milestone management * Technical VDR Management (Customer and Vendor) – management to Approved status * Cross engineering discipline coordination * Design interface management * Between disciplines * Other equipment * Engineering point of contact to Project Management * Review engineering deliverables for adherence to customer specifications Skills and Knowledge * Bachelor's degree in Engineering * Registration as Professional Engineer is beneficial * 7+ years' experience of which at least 2 years was in a position as manager in a supervisory role of at least 5 people. * Experience working in a mining, heavy equipment, or power industry; working with large scope and budget project required especially in the Design Phases of projects * Experience with the design or design management of mining equipment or large industrial machinery. * Active knowledge of FLSmidth Engineering Product Data Management system – Enovia and or Solidworks PDM * Demonstrated leadership, organizational, interpersonal and customer relations skills. * Ability to read and interpret contracts, specifications, and drawings * Ability to direct the intercompany and external formal Control and distribution of Documents & Drawings * Operates with latitude for un-reviewed action or decision. * Demonstrated skills and broad understanding in project planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost tracking Flsmidth Salt Lake City UT
