Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a State of Florida Professional Engineer license by examination in the civil category and a minimum of five years of practice experience as a structural engineer after licensure, including two years of experience in the structural design of buildings. A minimum of two years of experience in the HVHZ or, in lieu of the HVHZ experience, completion of an eight-hour HVHZ training course approved by the Board of Rules and Appeals before certification is required. Must be certified by the Board of Rules and Appeals.

Construction, Permitting and Building Code Division/Building Plan Review

Brief Description:

This is advanced professional engineering work in the examination of complex construction plans for building construction projects. Employees In this class are responsible for examining one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses (no more than three stories in height) construction permit plans (residential) to determine structural integrity and compliance with the requirements of the Florida Building Code and other applicable codes and regulations.

Job Duties:

Reviews projects for residential plans (up to one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses no more than three stories in height) for structural adequacy by verifying mathematical engineering computations and engineering procedures for stress, load, strength, deflection, and other factors; examines plans for structural integrity as required by the Florida Building Code. Approves or disapproves proposed plans in accordance with the code and other regulatory requirements, discusses disapproved Items with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners to obtain plan changes necessary for approval.

Conducts technical field inspections for existing residential buildings (one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses no more than three stories in height) to identify defects, damages, violations, and other departures from correct procedure; provides evaluation, recommendations, and suggestions of necessary remedy to keep or restore the safety of the building (for live and property). Ensures that construction work conforms to state and county building codes.

Conduct review of building recertification reports to confirm in reasonable fashion that the building or structure is safe for continue use. Conduct site visits to do quality control inspection of selected building recertification reports. Conduct review of structural glazing system reports to confirm in a reasonable fashion the structural condition and adhesion capacity of the structural silicon and glazing in curtain wall.

This position is eligible for a $480.75 bi-weekly pay supplement that equates to approximately $12,500 annually over a 26-pay period cycle.
