The Structural Packaging Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of the folding carton & corrugated package design efforts for Meyers customers. This position plays a key role within a cross functional team comprised of other structural designers & Graphic Designers. The Structural Packaging Engineer will lead and manage packaging projects from start to completion, across all packaging structures (i.e. paperboard, corrugated). The Structural Packaging Engineer will work with clients (internal and external) cross functionally, on a team or individually.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute winning packaging solutions for our customers by understanding the product, brand, vision of the client within budget limitations.

  • Develop packaging solutions & prototypes based on internal & external creative concepts.

  • Work closely with graphic designers to create the graphic treatment for packaging & display solutions.

  • Present packaging ideas to client and in house sales staff.

  • Design new retail packaging, POS/POP displays and transportation packaging in the areas of corrugated and folding cartons.

  • Lead and manage production trial runs to collaborate with the customers plants to qualify packaging within the manufacturing facilities for new product launches, startups as well as to develop best performance line setups and practices.

  • Manage Packaging Engineering process from sample requests and packaging specs through finish good item set up.

  • Develop quote drawings and work with project management and outside vendors.

  • Develop prototype drawings and work with vendors and internal staff to execute in specified timeline.

  • Create BOM & assist estimators & project management to develop final quote to customer.

  • Work closely with machine operators to ensure compatibility & efficiency to run designs on our equipment

  • Provide informational reports and proposals for production optimization, standardized specifications, and best practice guidelines to team members for decision making.

  • Assist in development of instruction sheets

  • Manage multiple projects & timelines to maintain schedule for your projects is upheld.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Understanding of 3-dimensional sketching and engineering drawings

  • Understanding of supply-chain management

  • Understanding of customer service

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Work environment: Subject to noise, hazards such as moving mechanical parts, pinch points, electrical currents, exposure to chemicals and high heat, atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, oils, cutting fluids and UV light.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Related Science or work experience equivalent (i.e. structural design of packaging and POP display design).

  • Minimum of 2-5 years in Package Design of folding cartons & corrugated packaging

  • Minimum 2-5 years of Project Management overseeing the entire production cycle

  • Kongsberg CAD cutting table experience preferred

  • 2+ years of Design software utilizing Artios CAD, Creative Suite package & Microsoft Office
