The Simpson Strong-Tie engineering group is focused on delivering education, services, and support to both internal and external customers in innovative ways. This position is based in Riverside, California and provides technical services to Southern California, Las Vegas (Nevada), Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii.

The Structural Engineer (Branch Engineer) serves as a technical expert to internal and external customers (such as specifiers, building officials, and contractors) in the Southwest U.S. region. They are responsible for the development and delivery of presentations and technical literature content to support sales, generate new products and services, and to improve or maintain our existing products or services. They educate the specifying community by providing technical information regarding product capabilities, proper application and installation and potential solutions to various structural engineering applications for wood, steel, and concrete structures. The Structural Engineer (Branch Engineer) is someone who communicates well and is Humble, Hungry and Smart.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)

Provide technical assistance to customers, and inside/outside sales through verbal and written communication (25%)

Travel with outside sales to develop personal relationships with them and our customers, assist with technical support, give presentations, conduct job site calls, research/report new products/applications, and observe product installations, including after natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes. (25%)

Create content for and conduct presentations (public speaking) discussing building code provisions, including practical design using Simpson products in front of customers like engineers, architects, builders, building officials, and our sales professionals. Assist with training inside and outside sales on new products and technical literature. Heavy focus on Mass Timber / Offsite construction, wood frame connectors and fasteners (20%)

Develop content for new literature publications such as Catalogs, Technical Bulletins, Fliers & Engineering Letters that will promote the benefits of our products and explain technical content. Check and review all technical literature prior to publication. (15%)

Be active with industry associations including attending meetings, participating in technical committees, providing technical presentations, composing technical articles for industry publications (10%)

Perform additional tasks as directed by the Branch Engineering Director, Branch Manager, or Vice President of Engineering (5%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Education: Licensed Professional Civil or Structural Engineer (required, CA & SE preferred).

  • Education: B.S. degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering (Required).

  • 3+ Years: Related structural consulting experience, including design with light-framed wood, steel and concrete structures practicing under a licensed PE or SE.

  • Construction Materials and Design Methods: practical working knowledge of common light-framed wood construction and concrete construction and associated design methodologies a must. Additional familiarity with masonry, steel (hot-rolled and CFS), and Mass Timber construction and design methods a plus.

  • Product knowledge: general knowledge of Connectors and Lateral System product lines (Anchors, Mass Timber, Fasteners, CFS, and Concrete Repair Systems a plus). General understanding of product development process from idea to launch a plus.

  • Customer focus: Quickly and effectively solve customer problems and maintain productive internal and external customer relationships.

    Readily readjust priorities to respond to pressing and changing customer needs. Recognize potentially adverse customer reactions and develop better alternatives.

  • Speaking and communication: Communicate verbally in an appropriate way for the audience he/she is speaking to.

    Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, and other groups. The role will require presenting to large groups.

  • Accountability and dependability: arrive to work on time and follow instructions, policies, and procedures. Fulfill commitments made to customers, peers, co-workers, and managers. Hold self and others accountable for measurable, high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results.

  • Teamwork: Maintain a collaborative approach in dealing with other Simpson Strong-Tie employees.

    Demonstrate a genuine commitment to reach mutually beneficial solutions. Demonstrated ability to motivate and work with team members.

  • Computer Skills: excellent proficiency in Microsoft software including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and PowerPoint. Experience with AutoCAD, BlueBeam Revu, Simpson Strong-Tie software/apps, SAP, and Smartsheet a plus.

  • Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as architectural and structural plans, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

  • Self-management: set priorities, goals and timelines to achieve maximum productivity. Manage multiple projects and competing priorities. Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner.

  • Driving record: Possess and maintain a driving record which complies with company policy.

  • Travel: Travel away from home with occasional overnight stays.

This job operates in a professional office environment where standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers/scanners, etc. are frequently used.

Travel

This position requires domestic travel up to 15% of the time.

Work Status & Location

This full-time, exempt position is located in Riverside, California and provides technical services to Southern California, Las Vegas (Nevada), Arizona, New Mexico and Hawaii.

Relocation

Relocation may be considered for this position.

Pay

$68,500 - $138,900 / Year
