Are you looking to work with a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team in an industry leading firm? Do you want to work with a variety of construction properties and materials? The Structural Engineer (EIT) role in our Oakland office may be the position you are looking for!

The Structural Design Engineer (EIT) role requires knowledge of structural engineering principles, structural engineering analysis, knowledge of common construction material and their properties. Interest in learning design skills utilizing aluminum and glass, as well as knowledge of traditional primary structural design utilizing steel, concrete and wood.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Although this individual will be involved with a wide variety of tasks, some of the key responsibilities will include:

  • Structural design of glazing systems and other cladding systems for commercial/residential construction.

  • Design of structural repairs, renovations and seismic retrofitting of existing wood frame buildings.

  • Field Review of fabrication and installation at project sites, with corresponding reports.

  • Prepare engineering calculations and detailed designs; discuss project requirements and solutions with Senior Engineers and Clients.

  • Investigation of glazing system performance problems in the field.

  • Investigation and documentation of structural failures and performance problems in the field.

  • Preparation of sketches and drawings for structural repairs and retrofitting using Autocad and Revit.

  • Prepare 3d diagrams and renderings to assist with Façade Engineering presentation efforts.

  • Oversight of shop drawing preparation for fenestration systems.

  • Liaise with the Structural Engineer of Record and Coordinating Registered Professional as required.

  • Liaise with clients, other consultants, contractors, building officials and suppliers as required.

  • Review architectural and structural drawings to become familiar with the overall building design intent including structural design of glazing systems and metal cladding for commercial/residential construction.

  • Review any other documentation, including maintenance records, targeted repair documents, and previous reports by other consultant/professionals.

  • Prepare written reports as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Science with a structural concentration

  • Engineer in Training. Interest and possibility of P.E. registration in U.S. jurisdictions in near future is a must.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to undertake structural design work with a variety of materials under the guidance of the experienced PM or Principal engineer. and direct the preparation of drawings.

  • Technical knowledge in building science an asset.

  • SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD and Revit familiarity and experience an asset.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to client service.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy are required.

  • Highly motivated individual who works independently, but is also team oriented and can provide leadership.

  • Able to conceptualize structural and architectural details in three dimensions.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Strong desire to learn.

BENEFITS AND PERKS:

The base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000 annualized for a full-time role. Salary is dependent on various factors, including qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and location. You may also be eligible for discretionary incentives and share ownership.
