A multi-disciplinary architectural engineering firm is currently seeking an Structural Engineer for our Palo Alto, CA office to support our work in forensic construction defect litigation support solutions on the West Coast.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a wide range of structural-engineering analysis and design projects involving mainly timber, as well as concrete, and masonry structures.
  • Plan and conduct site investigations to document existing conditions.
  • Execute the construction-administration phase of projects.
  • Serve as a project manager on smaller projects that may include:
  • Seismic analyses and evaluations
  • Design of structural elements as part of large infrastructure projects
  • Design of residential, commercial and institutional buildings
  • Investigation of structural failures and adverse performance
  • Design of rehabilitation and retrofit measures for problem structures
  • Responsible for direct client contact within context of existing work.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must have a BS or MS (preferred) .
  • Knowledge of Timber building and assemblies
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Familiarity with computer analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAP, RISA, RAM, SAFE, etc.).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.

Ideal candidates should have a technical (Bachelors or higher) degree in engineering, architecture, construction management or a closely related discipline; a Professional Engineer (PE, SE) or Registered Architect (RA) license is also preferred.

Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li><p>As a Design-for-Reliability Engineer focusing on structural systems, you will play a key role in designing reliability into the Rivian's body and chassis systems products from concept to production phases.</p></li><li><p>You will get to work with a world-class team of design and validation engineers to come up with creative solutions to some of the most challenging engineering problems by thinking outside the box.</p></li><li><p>Be the resident reliability development expert to the chassis and body design team.</p></li><li><p>Set and communicate Reliability requirements and targets for components, subsystems, and assemblies.</p></li><li><p>Analyze usage and environmental conditions in order to improve requirement setting and testing methods.</p></li><li><p>Facilitate Design FMEA sessions in order to drive reliable design choices and improve validation test planning.</p></li><li><p>Participate in design reviews and facilitate the reliability section of the design review.</p></li><li><p>Develop reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement.</p></li><li><p>Devise accelerated test methods to explore design margins and grow reliability efficiently.</p></li><li><p>Partner with the simulation teams to assess problem areas before physical parts are available for testing.</p></li><li><p>Specify reliability validation plans for components and subsystems using a physics of failure approach.</p></li><li><p>Provide guidance on sample size requirements and duration for reliability testing by utilizing reliability statistics.</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications</p><ul><li><p>Minimum requirement is a Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline or equivalent. Preferably one or more years of industry experience in a reliability engineering role. Level of Role depends on experience and qualifications.
