We are seeking a Structural Engineer to aid in designing solar projects using internal tools for quoting purposes. In this role, you will be responsible for looking at the intake of structural engineering parameters, applying it to in-house structural models, and providing a solar tracker design for which the site can be built and priced. You will work within an organized workflow, using online tools like Monday.com to track your workload and due dates. Furthermore, you will support the project engineering team on awarded project design and support the development of internal structural tools and workflows to make us more efficient. This role will have an impact on how the structural engineering of a growing company is done, and it is expected that you will take ownership of your responsibilities and execute on improvements to tools/workflows. This is a very cross-functional role, as you will be working with Sales, Applications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Supply Chain.
Responsibilities
Determine project design parameters (wind, snow, ice, dead) from coordinate locations and the applicable state code (IBC/ASCE 7).
Perform structural analysis on the tracker system using internal tools and RISA.
Build the analyzed tracker row in AutoCAD as a deliverable to the customer.
Attend sales meetings to support engineering specific questions.
Generate Top of Pile load reports using the TOPL tool and coordinate with foundation EOR to design the pile foundations.
Review geotechnical reports.
Coordinate with other departments to streamline project workflows.
Support and drive the development of internal software tools to increase the throughput and accuracy of proposals and documentation.
Occasional travel may be required to sites or conferences.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
FE/EIT required.
PE license is a plus.
2+ years' experience as a Structural Engineer.
Solar industry experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles, including wind design and steel code checks.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and RISA-3D (or any similar structural FEA software).
L-Pile experience is a plus.
Basic ability to understand Geotech reports.
Proficiency in using Excel tools.
Preferable experience in scripting for automation (i.e., Python/Matlab/VBA).
Excellent time management skills, including task prioritization and resource management.
Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with attention to detail.
Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
$75,000 - $150,000 a year
