DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Stroke Program supports the St.

Charles Bend Campus, including but not limited to the Emergency Department, Progressive Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, and Ortho/Neuro Departments in caring for the Stroke population throughout their continuum of care.

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Stroke Program Registrar will serve as the primary data abstractor for St.

Charles Health Systems Bend Primary Stroke Center using Get With The Guidelines for Stroke(GWTG), which ensures continuous quality improvement of acute stroke treatment and stroke prevention in accordance with AHA/ASA Guidelines and The Joint Commission (TJC). The Stroke Registrar will serve as the primary data abstractor for Stroke1 data for St, Charles Health Center Bend. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

Abstracts and codes clinical data from medical records in compliance with regulatory programs using program data dictionaries such as ICD-10.

Coordinates, obtains, and verifies clinical information and data to support clinical quality performance measurement and improvement.

Compiles, collates, and distributes accurate, complete, and easily interpreted monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports.

Responsible for the timely and accurate export of clinical data for State, Federal or other regulatory and accreditation programs. This includes but is not limited to: The Oregon State Stroke Committee and The Joint Commission.

Serves as a liaison for operational issues between the stroke registry and the Stroke Program Medical Director and Stroke Program Coordinator.

Works in with Stroke Program Coordinator and Stroke Medical Director to streamline processes and provides process improvement recommendations.

Enters and reports clinical data for TIA, Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke Patients into GWTG under the direction of the Stroke Coordinator.

Collaborates with Data Scientists to maintain current electronic stroke data dashboards.

Assists with coordination of program-related activities, meetings, and conferences as necessary for accreditation, performance improvement and service line support.

Serves as a representative of the stroke program while collaborating with physicians, clinicians, and patients.

Understands the Stroke Registry's role in the overall hospital structure as pertains to accreditations such as The Joint Commission.

Maintains ongoing knowledge base regarding changes in abstracting and accreditation standards as it pertains to the Stroke Registry.

Promotes teamwork, healthy communication, and provide excellent customer service including follow-through to resolution or referral to the appropriate person.

Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests.

Documents all data extracted from EMR with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies.

Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient and accurate.

EDUCATION

Required: High school diploma or GED

Preferred: Associates degree or higher

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION

EXPERIENCE

Required: Two years of administrative experience.

Preferred: Two years of healthcare experience.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:

Must have excellent communication skills and ability to interact with a diverse population and professionally represent St.

Charles Health System.

Ability to effectively communicate via phone and through written communication tools.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and document/report preparation.

Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.

Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.

Intermediate to advanced knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Continually (75% or more): Use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, standing, walking, lifting 1-10 pounds, keyboard operation.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, climbing stairs, reaching overhead, carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing.

Rarely (10%): Stooping/kneeling/crouching, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 11-15 pounds, operation of a motor vehicle.
