Stress Engineer II - Completions (Dallas) in GAC Savannah

Unique Skills:

Perform engineering work related to the investigation and solution of technical problems associated with research, design, development, service, and manufacture of Gulfstream aircraft. Solve typical engineering problems and provide technical assistance to engineering staff.

Contribute to the completion of project milestones. Responsible for complex engineering assignments. Follow established schedules while developing plans for engineering assignments applying company and organizational policies and procedures.

Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements. Maintain a current and up-to-date knowledge of developments and application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise. Support and assist design, analysis and certification of cabin interior commodities and systems.

Use FEMAP to create Finite Element Analysis models to analyze the structural integrity of new and modified CATIA assembly and installation designs of cabin interior. Use hand calculation methods for stress analysis of minor repairs and design changes. Review AutoCAD, CATIA and GSBI design data for structural integrity and provide feedback to design engineers to update engineering to meet structural requirements.

Prepare Stress Grouping analysis reports and aircraft structural substantiation reports to show compliance to regulatory structural requirements for obtaining STC. Perform allowables testing and prepare structural qualification/test reports. Use VBA with Excel/FEMAP/CATIA to develop and maintain automation tools that aid in numerical analysis of FEMAP analysis/results, review of CATIA CAD data and generation of Stress reports and database.

REQUIREMENTS: Must have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 18 months engineering experience, including demonstrated strong understanding of structural loadpaths and mechanics of material (i.e. Material Strength, Failure Modes), demonstrated proficiency using Finite Element Modeling / Analysis techniques and theory, and the ability to use hand calculations for stress analysis, demonstrated proficiency using CATIA to create, modify and review 3D engineering designs, demonstrated understanding of aircraft interior commodities design build and certification process, demonstrated proficiency using of using Excel/VBA to develop and maintain office automation tools. Will accept a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field plus completed coursework in the above-listed skills in lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field and 18 months of experience.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering or a related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 18 months related Engineering experience. Experience credit will be considered for related advance degrees limited to 2 years for Master's and 4 years for PhD in field applicable to the job position.

  • Contacts are primarily within the organization, with occasional customer contacts on routine issues.

  • Works under general supervision for routine tasks of minor complexity.

  • With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate the activities for lower level engineering staff.
