Summary

Plan, supervise, and assist in the maintenance and repair operations of the Street Maintenance and Drainage Divisions.

Qualifications

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of street maintenance, including pothole and utility cut repair, single and multi-course seal coat application, concrete and asphalt reconstruction, concrete repair, traffic control signs and markings, crack sealing, asphalt overlay, drainage and rights-of-way maintenance.

• Knowledge of principles and practices of drainage system maintenance and repair operations

• Knowledge and ability to safely and effectively operate equipment used in the maintenance of drainage facilities and streets.

• Ability to perform basic math up to high school level to determine quantities related to materials and supplies.

• Ability to make decisions with minimal supervision, yet understand when direction is required.

• Effective written and verbal communication.

• Ability to effectively supervise personnel.

• Provide a positive working environment and maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Three years or more experience in maintenance and repair of city streets and drainage facilities.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:

• Valid class "B" Texas drivers license with good driving record and must be able to obtain class "A" license within 6 months.

• Work Zone Certification IMSA or TEEX within 6 months of employment.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND SAFETY HAZARDS:

Solvents, paint, diesel, C.R.S.2.H, M.C 30, liquid asphalt, weed spray, concrete, asphalt for street repair and gasoline.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Dump trucks, roller, crack sealer machine, backhoe, front end loader, chip spreader, truck, street sweeper, shovels, picks, rakes, paint stripper, brooms, concrete saw, tractor mower.
