This is a provisional appointment.Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):Under general supervision, inspects the progress of contractual service for the street lighting facilities to ensure compliance with specifications; supervises and assists the work of employees engaged in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the city-owned street lights.
Repairs and maintains gas lamps; responsible for the proper handling and disposal of toxic materials; responsible for the care, custody and maintenance of floodlights on the outside of bridges; prepares related reports and recommendations for supervisors; and performs related work as required. Employees acknowledge technology changes in the panel board, and agree to attend training sessions required due to such changes. This position requires employees to wear safety equipment provided by the City, including work boots, vests, respirators, earplugs, safety helmets, or other necessary safety equipment. Employees are also subject to a dress code that prohibits tank tops and shorts and requires that employees shall wear long pants. Failure to comply with these requirements will result in progressive discipline, up to and including termination.
Required to work any emergency as directed by the Chief of Streets or designee.Must be available to work either the day shift or the 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 Midnight shift.
Minimum Entrance Qualifications
Applicants must have at least three (3) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, paid experience in electrical work.
A valid Massachusetts Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, is required, as well as a valid Hoisting License.
Knowledge of methods of construction for underground lighting conduit facilities and relations to other utility company facilities preferred, as well as knowledge of methods for above ground installations.
Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job.
