SALARY INFORMATION:

Grade I - $2,638.08-$3,587.20 Bi-Weekly

Grade II - $2,776.48-$3,770.32 Bi-Weekly

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Under direction schedules, plans, lays out, assigns, supervises, and inspects the work of crews engaged in the construction, maintenance, and painting of City streets, alleys, sidewalks, curbs, hardscapes, storm water systems, parking lots, and related structures; supervises and inspects the work of crews engaged in the installation and repair of traffic signs, graffiti abatement, and allied City construction work; inspects work performed by contract crews, including asphalt planning, grading, paving, and resurfacing operation; investigates and remedies complaints received from the public and other entities; enforces City and other governmental, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and safety regulations; maintains records, prepares reports, and disciplinary memoranda using a personal computer; establishes and controls operating procedures and work standards; develops and maintains safe working practices and working areas; estimates material and labor needs; ensures that crews are properly supplied with materials, tools, and equipment; selects, trains, and evaluates subordinates; assists in the preparation and monitoring of the division budget; performs other duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

Three years of (full-time equivalent) paid professional experience in the reconstruction, repair, installation and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, curbs, hardscapes, storm water systems, and/or traffic control devices including traffic paint and signage. At least one year of the required three years of experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity.

  • Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Degrees must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate a field of study and degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the reconstruction, repair, installation and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, curbs, hardscapes, storm water systems, and/or traffic control devices including traffic paint and signage;

  • Knowledge of storm water systems inspections;

  • Knowledge of pertinent City ordinances and Federal/MUTCD rules, regulations, and codes;

  • Ability to communicate effectively;

  • Ability to keep clear and accurate records of material estimates and labor needs;

  • Ability to enforce safety regulations;

  • Ability to supervise personnel;

  • Ability to effectively use technology (i.e. computers, tablets, and applications such as Microsoft Office or other related software).

Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, overtime, holidays, and respond to emergency callbacks.

A valid driver's license is required and must be submitted to the hiring department at the time of the selection.

A minimum rating of 70 must be attained in order to pass the examination. Certification by score bands will be considered based on analysis of exam results. The resulting eligible list will remain in effect for at least one year. Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of application and required supplemental application submitted. Only those candidates showing the strongest backgrounds on the basis of comparative analysis will be invited to the examination process. Based on the number of applications accepted, the selection procedure may be changed. In the event a revision is necessary, the affected persons will be notified.

In accordance with Civil Service Procedure 3.38, all eligible veterans that successfully qualify on any or all open-competitive examinations shall receive an additional credit of ten (10) points that will be added to their original passing score. Disabled veterans passing the examination shall receive a credit of fifteen (15) points that will be added to their original passing score. (A copy of the veterans DD-214, Member 4 form indicating honorable discharge must be attached to the application at the time of filing.)
