The Returns Product Manager will be responsible for managing the wide range of activities required to develop a specialized service offering for the reverse supply chain, and will lead a wide range of cross-functional product development activities related to strategy, roadmap development, operations, software, in-house capabilities, partnerships, integrations, solution design, marketing, business development, presentation development, competitive intelligence, market research, reporting, etc. Service offering will address all aspects of the reverse supply chain for consumer, retail and B2B returns customers.

Job Description

Responsible for business strategy, industry research, and product development.This requires a thorough understanding of the industry, market demands, competitive intelligence, services offerings, technology capabilities, and supporting business development tools.Knowledge of customer requirements, cross-sector leading practices, and the solution designs that have been previously developed for existing or pursued customers is very important.This position will be responsible for development and evolution of new service offerings; including appropriate industry research, business plan creation, go-to-market planning, operating model definition, identification of tools/capabilities, and implementation plans to aid in business pursuit and operation execution.Works closely with solution team members, customer development, operations, information technology, and marketing groups in order to validate that newly developed service offerings link to the business strategy and DHL has the execution ability.Expectations are that this position will stay current with business trends to provide appropriate solutions for new and existing business.

Responsibilities

Leads sector/business unit planning activities and ensures that the strategy is refreshed annually with quarterly reviews and 3-5 year re-plans.Works with the centralized strategy and marketing groups to assist with strategy development and leverage DHL tools and approach.Synchronize business strategy with Global Sector and supports global projects.

  • Works with marketing to conduct industry research, competitive intelligence, branding, thought leadership, and customer event activities.Leads thought leadership content development and related conference activities.Researches, identifies, and maintains appropriate alliances or partnerships.

  • Gains and understanding of the solutions implemented at existing sites and being pursued by the business development group, within own sector and across sectors.Researches market demands and new innovative service developments.

  • Develops and maintains the solution set capabilities with existing and new services developed.This will involve detailed information on the solution (tools utilized, cost models, productivity metrics, strategy, qualifications, benchmarking, customer references, concept of operation, information technology, value propositions, process maps, business requirements, and implementation plans).Works with Solution Development and ILD teams to collect, maintain, and create information.

  • Responsible for collecting lessons learned and productivity metrics (input into costing models to ensure solution accuracy and cost-effectiveness) from ongoing operations, customer post-mortem surveys to ensure that solution sets evolve with industry standards and to meet customer requirements.This will involve continuous learning and resourcefulness to ensure DHL maintains a competitive advantage.

  • Creates business plans for new service offerings, validates through marketplace research, confirms operating capabilities, identifies required information technology, build cost/pricing models, and develop sales plans.Works with Operations, Information Technology, Customer development, Finance, and ILD to complete go-to-market plans.

  • Participates in the analysis and selection of new tools to assist and improve the capabilities of the sector.This will involve working with internal IT and vendors to evaluate and select the appropriate tools to improve the solutions developed, as well as the appropriate support and maintenance of applications.Works with IT to publish our systems portfolio, creation of sales collateral, and usage of required tools.Supports industry-specific technology products, or custom developed applications, from a business perspective (requirements, process flows, maintenance, implementation, budgeting).

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree, required

  • Masters Degree in logistics, operations management, industrial engineering, preferred

  • Minimum 5 years experience in supply chain and specified industry
